Hole for light gun (Aim Track)
« on: May 21, 2015, 11:45:33 pm »
I've got my cab 80% done and moved into the house. Yay!

Just trying to figure out a few more last minute things. I have a couple of Aim-Track guns that I want to use for the cabinet.  I have already installed two USB ports on the front of the cab, but I want to have the guns connected to the computer at all times instead of having to plug them into the USB port (on the outside of cab) when I just want to play a gun game.  With me so far?

The side of the cab is still just covered with laminate since I haven't done the art yet. Take a look at the picture. I was thinking about drilling a small hole where the green dot is. The hole would be just big enough to get the USB connect through the hole. I think it's a good idea but I need some type of rubber grommet thing to make the cord all snug when sitting in this hole. Is this a stupid idea. Do you have a better one?

Also I need to figure out a good solution for the guns to rest on the side of the cab. Ultimarc has this "Holster for Aimtrak" but it has 4 long shafts on the bottom. I don't see how it i could install them on the sides of the cab near the control panel. :dizzy:

I'd put them on the underside of your CP, here:

You're mainly going to be playing from the front and you want to avoid as much wear and tear on the leads as possible + with that angle, the leads should clear any corners.

Saw one fella use metal shower hoses to encase his cables - of course this would mean dismantling your guns. Have Aimtraks too, and if I remember correctly, there is a smaller USB (B?) plug on the other end that plugs into the light sensing unit - you should get one of these through a shower hose :)

Like this:

Oh, as for storage - see this guy's solution:
