Real life spoilers
« on: January 14, 2015, 10:52:03 pm »
Anybody ever been told a real life spoiler? Found out something that you wish you hadn't (through no fault of your own) and had a surprise totally ruined?  Even worse have you had that happen then tried to fake the funk by pretending to be surprised and got called out?

Let's hear'em....spoilers ahead.

Every ---smurfing--- Superbowl game I try and tape on VCR/DVD/DVR.   Seriously.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Just the other day my wife had an ultrasound in the morning to find out what flavor of baby we were having and then had a dental appointment in the afternoon.  The dental assistant calls me asking that I contact my wife's obstetrician so they can fax over a chart (something about dental meds allowed for the prego) and then this stranger on the phone says, "And I just wanted to say congratulations on having a girl!"

To which I said, "We're having a girl!?"

The assistant totally freezes up, and then says, "Please tell me you already knew..."  I didn't.  Wife had planned a huge surprise to spring the news on me and our two sons.  Wife gets home, I try and keep it from her while asking about the Dr. visit but she can totally tell that the jig is up.  Then I have to tell her how I found out and she loses her ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- and starts crying because some dental assistant spoiled her surprise.

So there's that.  Aaaand when the 6th sense came out my Dad went to see it first at an afternoon showing and then at dinner wouldn't shut up about how he couldn't believe the guy was dead the whole time and what a shocker and oh my god and blah blah blah so that was spoiled too.

Congratulations.  At least you will get a fun story out of it to share with her when she gets older.

No topping that one.  I'll just leave my little Chicago Bears game story out of this.

Well, you could always do a blood test to make sure it's yours...

Just kidding! Congrats on the little Chuckette!

Until I watched that movie JFK in its entirety, probably about 5 years ago, I always thought that the street sign in the Zapruder film blocked the key moments.  Mostly thanks to all those 90s era JFK conspiracy TV shows that would jumpcut from the street sign to the secret service agent running up to the back of the Lincoln. I thought it was movie trickery and hopped online and was simultaneously hit by waves of feeling like one of the most ignorant people on the planet and intense nausea.

I'm still not sure I really wanted to know, but I suppose it's better than not knowing.  Unfortunately we're still doing this "to protect feelings" today when NASA doesn't want people showing the Challenger explosion or the unspoken agreement never to show some of the more gruesome scenes from 9/11.

Congrats, LC! Soon to be, dad of three!

Reminds me of my niece. When my sis-in-law and brother found out they were having a kid, my brother and sister-in-law decided to keep the gender a surprise. Only, my sis-in-law doesn't deal well with surprises or secrets. During one of her ultrasounds, she secretly asked what the gender was, then proceeded to tell everyone they were having a girl except my brother, and I mean everyone. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, co-workers, teachers, mail carrier....everyone knew except my brother. For pretty much the entire pregnancy he was the only one oblivious to fact they were having a girl.

I'm too afraid to ask about how he learned that everyone but him knew, but I could very well see the point in which he found out, the mere topic of baby gender sent him seething with anger.  :lol

Thanks everybody for the well wishes!

Yeah, I was pretty miffed that she told some random dental hygienist before me but my wife swears she didn't reveal the sex to the woman, the assistant just asked if she was having a girl and my wife couldn't help but breaking into a big grin.  I guess that was enough for a phone call that should have come with spoiler alerts lol.

Christ, who cares.  It's not like you can change your mind after the baby is born.

I suppose as long as the baby is healthy, it really doesn't matter how you found out about her gender. I would still be a little pissed.

My daughter posted a link to the following on her Facebook recently, I found it very humorous but applicable to many of life's situations.  Oh and congrats!
