9A60 to KV-27FS120

I grabbed a KV-27FS120 TV and a Audio Authority 9A60 transcoder for a Radeon HD 4870 running CRT_Emudriver.  When trying to output any resolution (240p, 480i included), my picture is distorted at the top:



I got a replacement sent, but the replacement is doing the same thing.  Does anyone have any experience dealing with this issue?  I tried two power bricks, one center negative, one center positive with the same results.

If the 9a60 won't work I'd appreciate suggestions for alternative transcoders.  I had looked at Crescendo but they appear to be out of business which is why I purchased the 9a60.

That's the TV I use, so I know that's not the problem.  The first thing I would check is whether you have CRT_Emudriver set up correctly, have you ever had it working before?  What is the modeline you're trying to run in that picture?  Use WinModelines to get the modelines of the resolutions you have installed.

It is possible that the transcoder is no good.  The 9A60 has yet to be confirmed as good or bad for CRT_Emudriver.  A proven one you could try is a CVS-287.  See this post for details:

These were used units.  They initially sent me a 9A60 and a 9A60A as a replacement and both are doing this at 320x240p or 640x480i.  I've tried about every resolution in between so I think it's safe to say this transcoder doesn't work properly with anything below 480p.  Both work perfectly on my HD CRT and LCD sets so they must be the issue.

I ordered a CVS-287 and wanted to know if a cable like this would work since I have no tools to build a cable.

For the cable, it depends how the change from separate to composite sync is handled.  It's advertised as SCART to VGA (the opposite direction from what you need), so I'm guessing it could be a problem.

Is there any place that would sell a pre-made VGA-SCART cable that would work with the CVS-287?

Not that I know of.  Soldering is a good skill to learn for this hobby.  If you absolutely won't, then get on a retro-console-oriented forum like nintendo age or something like that, and look for a modder for hire.

I've done soldering in the past, I just moved and liquidated alot of my stuff thinking I wouldn't need it.  So I suppose I'll just buy another iron and bite the bullet and make the cable myself.  What was the recommended diagram for this transcoder?
