Lets watch Malenko fix up a NFL Blitz
« on: November 21, 2014, 02:58:48 pm »
Picked up a Dedicated NFL Blitz, was told it was "finicky" and didn't always power on.

here are the pictures from the CraigsList ad:

And here it is after I temp swapped the power supply:

The good:
cab exterior is in really good shape (other than the top left corner thats apparently broken off of every midway cab)
monitor works and looks really ---smurfin--- good.
49 way sticks are in perfect shape
It was super cheap
Blitz is a fun game, and its Blitz 2000 Gold

The bad:
buttons need replaced (no biggie)
monitor glass is missing.
power supply was borked (already replaced with a spare)
beer or soda needs cleaned out of under the CP plexi
CPO will probably need replaced
CP Plexi definitely needs replaced
I believe the hard drive is dying, random game resets.

The Plan:
Just clean it up and get it running.  If the Blitz 2000 Gold PCB is running Vegas hardware, I'll do the Sportstation upgrade to have NBA Showtime and NFL Blitz in the same cab. If its Seattle hardware I'll be happy with just Blitz 2k gold.  I'll passively be on the look out for a 4 player panel and do the 4p conversion, but its not a priority.

Awesome restore there! I'd keep it 2 unless you really want 4.

How could you possibly not know if it's running Vegas or Seattle boards?

 ???

There's a big metal cage over the PCB, and Blitz 2000 Gold can run on either hardware.

I got the cab , crammed MK4's power supply in there to see it boot, then I turned it off ,and didnt bother going back into the garage.
I'll spend a little time with it this weekend, I have higher priorities right meow.

What's a higher priority than fixing up an arcade game?

Never had one to start with

Also, its a Seattle board set, so there goes the idea of having Showtime and Blitz on 1 cab

Ok,
I took the "cage" off the PCB, to discover its a Seattle board, and not a Vegas Board.

Even after replacing the power supply the game would randomly reset. I ran a few diagnostics and discovered the hard drive was on its last legs.  Luckily I have friends with access to IDE hard drive and my buddy Bobby (the guy I restored a Galaga for) reimaged a 20GB with the blitz2k.chd using CHDMan for me.

So I took the time to mount the new hard drive, and put the new power supply in place:

Also wiped down the base and walls, removing a ton of dirt and dust.

And then I put the cage back on. The "mark" on the cage is just a bit of moisture from wiping the cage off one last time.

Cage reinstalled using philips head lath screws instead of hex heads.
All that is left to do is clean the CP, get new monitor glass/plexi cut, and make the piece of metal to hold the glass in.

minor CP clean up, This is the before:

removed and cleaned the buttons, and its a little tough to see, but some sort of beverage was spilled on the CP, and seeped in. The best place to see it is to the right of the word TURBO on the player 2 side.
Gave the CPO a solid wipe down, and cleaned both sides of the plexi thoroughly.

T molding will probably get replaced in time, there are more than enough cig burns in it and the CP Plexi.

thanks Zenom....err......MK3FAN

Im going to make an alternate version of that , and he's gonna print it for me and keep the design.

So all the boot issues with Blitz have been sorted. Factory hard drive is on its last legs, so I imaged not 1 but TWO IDE HDs to act as spares, and both work 100%.  Last issue with the game is that it wont save settings after powered off, so Im going to try and replace the cmos battery and see what happens.

Here's my newbie version of your (MK3FAN) 's Midway Row:

I kinda miss having UMK3, I dont play MK1 as much as I thought I would.

It's so weird to see stuff I owned in someone else's house.   :o

Those autographed konkey dong pictures almost got me kicked out of a show a few years ago....

Here's my newbie version of your (MK3FAN) 's Midway Row:

Most of my games are now gone/sold but here's what is used to look like. My KI2, Radikal Bikers, War: Final Assault and Mace: The Dark Age were in storage but if you want to include those, I was only missing the 2-Player Blitz and Midway Skins machine and I would have had them ALL!!!
