Woohoo! So excited...
« on: October 24, 2014, 07:58:13 pm »
Super happy.  I start a new job next week.  I'm going to be the repair/maintenance guy at the local "Family Fun Center".  Means I'll get to repair and maintain the arcade and ticket machines as well as the kiddie rides.

I've learned so much about arcade machines through this forum, it gave me the confidence to apply.  The owner picked my brain for a bit and was satisfied that what I don't know, I can pick up quick enough.  That also means I'll be picking some of your brains a bit.  Gonna have to see if I can find a similar forum for ticket machines as well.

Wish me luck on this new endeavor!

It's a "Family Fun Center" called Jambo!...  It changed ownership and management a few months ago.  Old owners let the place and the equipment decay so I'll have a lot of work to do.  But it'll be fun!

I had no idea this place existed.  There used to be an indoor putt putt in that area, but it died out.  This place is genius, like Makuta's Island, but with putt putt.

Good luck bro.

You spend time fixing it all up, then the owners put the arcade on eBay.  :laugh2:

Meh, that's fine by me.  I'm getting paid, that's all that matters.  I needed a second job to make ends meet, it's a bonus that the job happens to be something I enjoy.  :)

Good lord, these machines are in poor shape.  Spent 3 hours working on coin doors.  Broken socket wires, replacing bulbs, TONS of lube spray.  Ended up having to use a bunch of 555 bulbs since we are out of 161's.  I know they'll burn out quick, but better than nothing.  Anybody know a good/inexpensive source of 555 and 161 bulbs?  I also need to source a bunch of 18" fluorescent tubes for marquees.  Cheap as possible of course.

Any reason you wouldn't swap the coin bulbs for white LEDs? You have to buy replacements anyway might as well only do it once...

Good job living the dream!

Short term cost.  Plug in LED replacements seem to be more than $1.50 each versus the 23 cents each of a bulb.  Standard corp though ignores long term costs and only looks at bottom line NOW.  Doesn't matter that the LEDs would most likely never burn out and use less power thus costing less in the long term.

Holy crap, man.  You never cease to amaze.  Thank you.  Wow, you even found good prices.  Way better than I was finding.
