Good vs. Evil CP Art
« on: October 20, 2014, 08:37:27 pm »
I am more of a lurker on the forums. Just reading the messages and absorbing has been endlessly valuable!
Recently got a cheap and messed up old cabinet but the wood was in good shape and I am turning it into a MAME. I tossed around a lot of ideas for the cab but wanted something that was pretty broad so I came up with good vs. evil concept. I designed the CP to be laid out like a Character Select screen from a fighting game. Still need to add some touches and a final larger evil character, might even add another row of characters to "select" because it was so much fun creating that grid.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks!

The concept is cool but the mugan-y mix of characters is all over the map and kinda ruins the vibe. I'd stick with a DC theme or at least source art that all has the same style more or less.

Appreciate the feedback, and I can totally see where you guys are coming from. I went with the characters that I was the biggest fans of, that I felt like I wanted on the CP but thanks a ton for the input!

Yea, really good start, but I agree with the others. One thing i've heard people constantly say is to design around the sticks. If you put up your button and stick locations, at least where you think they would be, it can help tremendously. You might create the best artwork in the world and then throw a button on top of Ryu's face  :lol

If you really wanted to go with that concept,  maybe you could hire a good artist to redraw your characters in the same style. Sure, it costs money, but you pay for quality.

I actually have button overlays and have been designing around it, I just made them invisible for the purposes of showing my artwork.
Hiring an artist to standardize the art is a really good suggestion, I'm going to look into that!
