PS1 Light Gun SW JACK signal?
« on: August 14, 2014, 07:50:15 am »
I have this light gun:

That has a 3.5mm "SW JACK" in the bottom for a pedal:

I also have this 3.5mm to 9-pin cable:

So, which signal must i send from my computer to the gun trough the 9-pin cable in order to mimick a pedal?

Thanks in advance.

Ummmmmmmm Nothing.  All you need is a switch wired up to a 3.5 Jack.  The jack is just another way of getting a button press to the board.  If you need a replacement pedal I believe that you could use a Guitar hero Drum Pedal.  What exactly are you attempting to do.

I want to be able to hit a button on my computer keyboard (Spacebar, enter, K, whatever) rather than using a pedal.

So a pedal is just "making the connection" in the "SW JACK" ?

So... just take a 3.5 audio cable, cut the cord, and stick it into a usb relay controller?

????

How did you get a usb relay controller out of "it's just a switch"?

Take a 3.5mm cable you buy at the dollar tree, cut the end off, and wire that onto any SWITCH you prefer.  As in the cherry switches we use for our arcade buttons, or a switch contained inside a pedal ect....

Are you trying to use a console lightgun on your pc?  Because sometimes it's possible but keep in mind a lot of things have to be in alignment, including the version of windows you are using, the lightgun you are using, and your monitor (needs to be crt and a round one at that).

I don't want to use a button, i want to make a c++ application that makes the character in time crisis duck down for cover if i press the keyboard button "u".

For that, i guess i need a usb relay controller like this one:

5V USB Relay 1 Channel Programmable Computer Control For Smart Home

Why do you want to use a keyboard?  The whole point of this entire site is to NOT use a keyboard.  ;)

Hack into the status indicators of your keyboard? Wire up a quad conductor socket (like the kind on your Android) and wire each light plus ground. Hack an appropriate cord (your headphone/mike set) to a mono jack or three. Write your utility to toggle the appropriate light.

Not sure what the lag would be on that though.

I never explored that as I don't see much use for it but I do believe some older cabs leveraged hacked keyboards and tapped into the status indicators.

Well yeah you can hack a keyboard... but I think this guy is talking about using the physical keyboard, which I don't get.

A usb relay controller like this one that i mentioned earlier can be used to switch of lights and such, right?

5V USB Relay 1 Channel Programmable Computer Control For Smart Home

So if i can solder on any switch/button to the "SW JACK" on my light gun, then i can solder the usb relay controller to my light gun as well, right?

And if the usb relay controller comes with a C++ library for programming a application to turn the "switch" on/off, then i can make a program that switches the "switch" on or off if i press a key on the keyboard, right?

Oh yeah....huh... maybe he's parallized and can't use a foot peddle?

The relay is a bit clunky but yes, it is doable. Don't know what the USB device enumerates as so that would speculation on my part how easy it would be.

I dont think your computer sends any signal to your gun.

just hot glue your finger to the U on the keyboard and just be done with it perhpas? :laugh2:

it is too late for me to think of what is going on here but as of now I am lost  :dizzy:

Well that's what I was confused about.  If you are using it on your pc then you've got a keyboard right there.  So if you want to use the keyboard and not a foot pedal why would you use a usb device to simulate the key when you have the key right in front of you?

I think we are losing something in the translation.
