Ms pacman help
« on: June 06, 2014, 11:10:54 am »
So I'm kinda new to the arcade seen as far as restoring them , so I picked up a ms pacman upright for $75 it came complete with all orginal components other than the monitor was new.  So the guy told me he bought this and could never get it to work,  he said the monitor was good the pcb was tested and working. And he also bought a new power supply.  So if all that stuff is true that leads me into the wiring ? I will post some pics later.  But any tips you guys could give me would be great since I have never took on a project like this before

    Does it come on at all ?..... There is a safety interlock switch on the back door, if the door is off you have to pull the switch out into service mode, With that said the edge connector, and traces on the pcb is worth taking a look at, they are problematic.

So it looks like previous owner installed a pac power switcher kit from the real bob Roberts .  It looks like a mess .  I'm not sure if this typical but he cut off the original connector and soldered his leads to the pac power kit ?

well with out pictures here?,
i will through in a guess.
the old header was bad >common< for it's age.
and the other person did not want to spend the extra buck or 2 to get the nessary header's,
or they did not have the nessary tool's to do the job.
your task now if u want it origanal as u said u did
is to track down the header's and pin's,and put them in.
it is just not that hard of a job

Alright so I checked the switcher I'm getting proper voltage out of it. When I power up I can hear the monitor turn on.  But no picture or sound. I found wires coming from the monitor not landed anywhere .  What are they for do I need these hooked up ?

u will see a molex plug with 7 pins

as it should be from left to right >looking from the back<
r/g/b/gnd/sync-/sync+
with a space betwen gnd and the first sync
might even be marked on the board :50/50 there:

also look for an aux board ?
it should be there..it will normaly hook to the board's header
and then the harness will hook to it..
leaving that aside

17=sync
u=blue
16=green
t=red

the top side start's 1-xx
the bottom or solder side start's a-xx

all pins from the top side
start from left to right

ok from what i can see u do not have the adapter board that they sent out with that machine,instead u have a modified header board..we did that back in the day,to make the cab's more unverisal.
i will post u the pinout and or .zip it for u and send it to u.
the harness is there buying a new 1 will just open a can of worm's u do not want to get into
save the $$$.
if u are going to leave it mspacman/pacman/donkeygong,then we will just redo the wiring
i trust u can solder ? and have a meter ?,
if so u are gold

ok i need u to lookie it over >the manual<
yw btw.
what we want to do is remove 1 of the hearder's
and olny come off of the main board with a single header.
now most important
top side = part's side = 1-xx
bottom side=solder side = a-z
alway's left to right,use the main board for refernce,it is in the picture that show's
the header's..-5v or -12v is not used at all.
what we want to do
is remove the all of the wires and start freash >about 3hr's given the chat time<
now what we want to do also
is group the wire's
ie power supply = group 1
control's = group 2
coin door = group 3
monitor = group 4 r/g/b/gnd/sync
speaker =group 5
once this is done u are 1/2 there

thats fair enough
but unless u are planning on installing board's that need to switched in  and out ?
it is not required..
our quest here is to get the machine running again..
if u have ever seen a jamma harness they come off in groups
this is the best effect..no fuss no muss
