What's the largest monitor I can fit into a 24"w, 23"h, 18"deep space?

I'm looking to upgrade my game cabinet, the venerable 'No Quarter', pics in sig.  Right now I have a de-cased Dell 19" computer monitor.  As the subject states, my monitor shelf dimensions are 24w, 23h, and I think 18" deep.  If I stick with a crt monitor I could probably get a Viewsonic G810 in there.  If I went to the dark side and got an LCD, there are 5:4 21" monitors I could use.  Are there any known TVs or arcade monitors over 19" that anyone can suggest to fit my cab?

Would a "traditional" 25" CRT arcade monitor fit in this space?  The depth is 18 3/4"

I measured a 19" vision pro I've got on the shelf. 20" (to frame edges, tube is 18 1/4 wide) x 14" x 17 1/2 (to clear neck board). I don't have any larger tubes to measure depth for ya.

24" CRT decased would fit.

you should be able to squeeze in a 25" Arcade CRT width and height wise but I don't know if you'll have enough depth to fit the neck board without issue.

IIRC  the mounting holes on my WG U2000 were about 19"x19" the "visible area" on a 25" tube is 15" high x 20" wide add a little bit around the parameter for the frame and you should still be good in that regard.... heck a 27"/29" might even fit height and width wise.

I never measured the depth of my 25" and the only monitors I have outside of cabinets right now are 27"/29" Tri-Syncs.

I know there were a few obscure arcade monitor models designed for shallow cabinets but you'd probably have a hard time finding them.

you could also consider cutting a hole in the back of your cab to accommodate the neck-board... this isn't unheard of, several legit arcade machines did this.



The other thing you might want to consider is weight... those 25"+ arcade monitors weigh upwards of 60lbs and most of them are mounted on metal brackets with carriage bolts right through the side-wall of the arcade cabinet... depending how you have it built a wooden shelf might not be enough.

If you want I can measure the depth of my 27" tonight just for reference.

So I have 2 27" monitors kicking around and these were the dimensions

Monitor 1: WG D9200 (Digital 27" Tri-Sync)
Width: 24.5"
Height: 22" (measured on a slight angle from the mounting tabs)
Depth 1:  ~19" (from the mounting tab to the furthest sticking out section of the neck board)
Depth 2: ~21.5" (from the front of the glass to the furthest sticking out section of the neck board)

Monitor 2: NeoTec NT-500DX (Digital 27" Tri-Sync)
Width: 24.5"
Height: 21.5" (measured on a slight angle from the mounting tabs)
Depth 1:  ~18.5" (from the mounting tab to the furthest sticking out section of the neck board)
Depth 2: ~20.5" (from the front of the glass to the furthest sticking out section of the neck board)

I snapped some pictures of the depth measurement. if you want a more detailed view let me know and I'll upload them.

I have a Makvision 27" and while it's in a machine making measurements difficult I can tell you it's slightly larger all around than the NeoTec

Based on the width I would say you'll definitely want to consider a 25" as a 27" will likely be a hair too wide for your cab.

First of all, wow, thanks everyone!  I figured the topic would just die after a couple of days, but I didn't realized I wasn't subscribed to the darn thread.  This place is still one of the most helpful forums I've ever seen.  Now I have more options to investigate, but yes, for crt, 25" looks to be the way to go.  Would the Makvision tri mode 24.8 be able to display MAME emulated vector graphics adequately, with its top resolution of 640 x 480?

hey ! the makvison fits in my cab! the cab is 23.5 inches wide and  18 deep as well. hope that helps!
fits very nicely,just need to find a way to make a bezel the 25 inch ones do not work so well with my cab
