t moulding substitute
« on: March 25, 2014, 12:06:48 pm »
I was wondering if we could brainstorm a substitute for t moulding. I am using quarter inch ply.
eds1275 already suggested a pinstripe.  Anybody have any input on this?

Here is the link to my build. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,135450.0.html

T-molding is the biggest hustle going in this hobby.  I'd love to be shown a cabinet that only needs 20'.  Everyone gets burned once and then you just deal with 10 foot scraps piling up in a box.

HAHAHA. True. I usually save the extra bits for other projects.

Some vendors sell by the foot rather than in rolls.  I buy exactly how much I need and they usually toss in a few extra feet.  My STUN Runner took 47 feet and cost me $12.  Not exactly what I'd call a hustle.

I suppose you could do 20 feet if you don't run T-Molding down the back and bottom.

How do you guys store your extra T-molding?  I've got a lot of it piled up at the moment and don't want to get it damaged.

I roll it back up, secure it with tape, and put it in a large USPS priority mail box. Works well.

Just use a quarter round bit and run the edges with your router.  Sand lightly, use high build primer, sand again, paint and done.

Well, with my TMNT pedestal, I couldn't squeeze any vendor less than about $35 shipped for 40 feet of 3/4" blue t-molding.

So what do I do?  Suck it up and buy 100 feet for $45 shipped.

http://www.amazon.com/Plastic-T-Molding-100ft-Roll-Light/dp/B00DL7KQ9E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395771486&sr=8-1&keywords=blue+tmolding

I'm curious if it will actually ship.  It's quite a bit cheaper than what his website quotes.

Yeah, gamemolding.com is where it's at.  A quarter a foot for 3/4 black and none of that 20ft garbage!

@PBJ, yeah but they have white and you can get a $2 box of rit dye

Yeah I have to order another 20" and I only need about 4" of it.

Curves are usually no problem. Sharp corners you usually need to cut. Doesn't look too bad being cut though.

Stuff is real easy to apply too, most of it already has the adhesive on it and you just need to run a hot iron along it.
