Actually, no kids required. Its a great movie for anyone. I just feel that the message will resonate well with all you hobbyist dads.

When I noticed in the previews that there is actually at least one retro-Lego, I figured I'd need to see it. At least to see what's up with the retro-Lego.

Good to hear its entertaining.  My wife and I have been making to go see it.  I love how the Space Lego guys helmet is cracked in the center by his chin.  Growing up with space legos I think everyone of my early helmets is in the same condition.

I took my son to see it last weekend.
It was very good.

My wife and I went to see it Friday night and absolutely loved it. "Everything is Awesome" will somehow find its way into your head every few hours.

I liked it but I can't stand Wil Ferrel.  Hate that guy and as usual he sucked.  The rest of the movie was good enough to make up for him dragging on the ground behind it like a talentless anchor.

Hear ya there.  I am glad they kept him serious in the live scenes. Otherwise he probably would have really annoyed me. Plus, there was enough focus on the other characters. I also got a kick out of the space guy with the snapped helmet. JD, my space guys were in that condition, too!  :lol

Go back and watch the opening scene in the Beavis and Butthead movie.  The one where Butthead is looking at the TV stand, then the footprints, then the broken window... repeat... repeat... and clearly just not getting what happened.  And with no facial emotion whatsoever.  Then watch the end scene again where he's looking at the legos, and looking at the kid, and looking at his hand... repeat... repeat... with no facial emotion whatsoever.  It's the same damn scene.  Wil Ferrel's acting skills are equal to Butthead's.

Since we are talking about the movie inside spoilers

I had a slight matrix vibe.  Anyone else?

Yeah, I was actually surprised that Ferrel, who specializes in playing a man-child, could not even pull off looking like he was having fun playing with legos with a kid. It didn't spoil the movie for me though, because the 8 year old son with Emmett were the ones who drove the meaning of the movie home, and that kid was a much better actor.

Yeah, I made that connection too. The whole coming back to the imaginary world with ultimate builder abilities was when it became very obvious.

It was great! Recommended to anyone who plays or played with LEGO!
Not just the cracked space helmet; Vitruvious staf is one of those chewed lollipops: I did that as well when I was a kid.

I also liked how they "visualised" the master builder's thinking process; using the individual part numbers. Had a (BBC) Sherlock vibe.

Also the 'inside Emmet's head' sequence reminded me at the Matrix "Lot's of guns" sequence

Wait you didn't like anchor-man?

You do understand that his acting is bad on purpose right?  That's the joke.

A joke that wore thin on SNL and is just awful in a full length movie.

Nah, Will hasn't made a bad movie, except for Step Brothers... that was crap.  And remember I've been accused from everyone of hating on good movies.  If I like them they have to be good.

It's just stupid enough for me to love. My wife and I just re-watched it and it's still hilarious (mostly for John C Reilly).

I can totally see how people could hate it.

Off the top of my head, Bewitched and Elf.

Now we know you are just trolling..."Elf" is a Christmas classic!

...as for his movies in general...some parts of them can be really funny...but most also make some jokes that are just in-your-face dumb.
Talladega nights is a good example...overall pretty funny but some times the humor just sinks below what I think is funny...its enough that I don't care for the movie.

Anchorman was still funny...and he was fine in the Lego movie.

It probably will go down as a Christmas standard, but Elf is just an irritating film after the first time. I don't want to rag on Elf that much, but there are only a few Christmas movies that make me cringe, this is one of them. I wanted to smack everyone who started using the word "Ginormous" after that film came out.

If you want another crappy Will Ferrell film though, how about that one where he is that book character or whatever that is suppose to die, and kept hearing a narrator to his life. It reminded me of one of Jim Carrey's attempts to make a introspective, "deep" movie. At least it wasn't as bad as one of Bill Murray's attempts.

Pretty sure that word predates the movie.  I've never seen Elf and I remember that word going back a long way.

It does. Mostly complaining about how suddenly a bunch of people started using it specifically because of the film.

I don't mind Will Ferrell. And I happened to enjoy Step Brothers, though I'll admit it was carried by the full cast (Adam Scott's douchiness, John C. Reilly going berserk over his drums, etc.)  And I thought "Stranger Than Fiction" was a decent film. But I can see he's a love-him/hate-him actor.

I enjoyed The Lego Movie immensely. Though I may be one of those people who took the father's side (and this is why I don't have kids.)

Did anyone else notice that for a split-second, they played the Double Dare theme song during one of the 'time passes' cards?
