Blast/Astro city nanao monitors and VGA card with native res
« on: February 13, 2014, 09:23:30 am »
I am looking into getting a new astro city or blast city with the original Nanao arcade monitor... does anyone know what connection these monitors use for input?  I plan on using CRT_emu drivers and compatible video card as I have done for my existing build at native resolution with groovymame (but for my build I had to use a transcoder to get from vga to component as I am using a TV).  Just wondering what hardware I need to make the connection to a Nanao monitor from VGA. If it's VGA/RGB in I guess I am good to go right from the card to the monitor?

I'm thinking I might need a J-pac to send video through, instead of just an i-pac for this build, is that right?

EDIT: Looks like the monitor takes an RBG header of some kind... not standard VGA at all.  So I assume I also need a special cable.

It varies from monitor to monitor... I've seen them with VGA ports as well as more generic arcade monitor headers. Most of these cabs are wired for JAMMA so I'd recommend just getting JPAC and be done with it.

I have a few "VGA" monitors, you'll still need to use Soft 15K to force 31K output modes since not all 640x480 modes are supported by these monitors and Windows hates to go below 800x600.

Yeah I'm quite familiar with outputting 15khz to a vga cable using crt emu drivers and groovymame. My only question is what cable or hardware/amplifier do I need to hook up the vga to nanao monitor? I see ultimarc sells a breakout cable or an amplifier adapter as well as j pac... Just not sure what I really need.
