New year new cab
« on: January 01, 2014, 03:18:08 pm »
So what seems to be tradition now as the new year begins I'm starting my next arcade machine.

To be honest it's kinda of a hybrid
Arcade machine and Xbox 360.

To date it's going to be my tallest cab
I'm using these plans.

The bottom half is going to be see through and I'm fitting this PC

I'm gonna add extra case lights to get a nice blue glow

The middle section I'm fitting my xbox 360

For the screen I'm fitting my 32 inch LCD

It's going to be a 2 player cab but this time in fitting 7 buttons for fighting games that need the extra button

The PC is a AMD phenom II 3.4 ghz
With 4gb of DDR3 ram ( I'm planing to add more)
And it's fitted with a nvidia gtx 660
Graphics card

Also on the side I'm making a hook to hang my rockband guitars

It's basically my gaming setup fitted into one machine

The problem I'm having is picking a them I'm toying with a new style Mortal Kombat or a Batman theme

Anyone got any ideas?

Please tell me you're that's just mockup artwork and that you're not planning to stretch it like that?

I really like the design. The curved back makes it unique although it will be hard to fit a back plate. I don't like any of the artwork ideas (besides the ugly stretching).

Cheers for the ideas

So day one

Bought my wood from B&Q at £20 for a sheet of 18mm MDF it's more expensive than other places but they cut wood for free so with my 2 sheets cut to rough I marked my wood

And screwed the left and right sides together

Then I used trunking as a guide for my jigsaw

Ten minutes of cutting

And the two sides are cut with bottom shelf and above the marque light

Note the control is short because I'm sitting a curved section on top different from the plan

More updates tomorrow

So back to the wood cutting

First I got out the control panel
I went off plan because like women it's better with curves ; )

Now time to put it together for a dry fit

The front on that I'm going to cut a window into

The control panel in place

One of the 3 back panels on

The side view

Loading it into the van

Snug fit

So taking it home to prep for decals and continue the build.

I have a few panels missing and not sure how I'm going to fit a panel under the control panel maybe a curved panel hmmmm

Still not sure what design I'm going for ?

Looking good so far!  I'm not sure about Mortal Kombat artwork on a cabinet with "street fighter" cut into the front?  :)

Nice work so far. Love that slim cab look.  :applaud:
Would you copy the artwork on that Injustice cab?

Also where did you get that Fix It Felix 2-player artwork setup?
I've been toying with the idea of making a Fix it Felix upright.

Cheers for the feedback
I think ill just make my own injustice artwork based on those pictures.

The fix felix artwork was given to me on the hyper spin forums then I just modified it to make it into a 2 player control setup if you need some artwork let me know I'll see what I can do for you.

So little update today until I can cut my T-molding groove i decided to get the speaker panel ready....weird place to begin ; )

Holes cut out for speakers

Two layers of undercoat

1 layer of top coat

I cut the groove in the sides for the T-Molding

As some parts are going to be on show I undercoated them

Then once again

Now with the black

And once again

And that's the inside done

One more coat on the speaker grill

And speakers fitted

Now to fit it back together

Just a rough idea if what the parts look fitted it's hard to get a picture of finish I got I'm really happy with it

fitted some T- Molding to see how it looks you gotta love that bling

Hard to show in a picture but I tested the speaker and fitted the Sub woofer and played Mortal Kombat and the bass and sound was terrific.

Yup she's big !

Anyone good arcade names?
I was thinking "Ultracade"

Well like all builds you get the odd  set backs.
Mine came today when I decased the LCD I had planed on using
I stripped it down and removed part's I didn't need speakers etc
But when flipped it on its front I hadn't noticed a screw that had fallen out, so I accidentally put all of the tv weight onto the screen.

And yup It cracked and even though
I'm a qualified electrician I still googled LCD repair and of course you can not fix a cracked screen

Happy days

Sad times

Oh well guess I'll have to hit gumtree/eBay

I really really like the profile of this cab, well done  :applaud:

The control panel does seem like it has a lot of overhang (seems like at least 30%). Are you sure that will be stable?

So busy day/night tonight

Decased the tv

Cut out new frame  and mounted tv to it,it not straight but a trim will fix that

Mounted it into the cab

Fitted PC to bottom and out a temporary (not level shelf for the Xbox 360)

Lots of tiding to do and make front panel

And testing how she runs with the ultimate test mine craft

So lots to do lots to clean up,straighten add fixings fans light etc and panels to make and the control panel to build also choose  the final artwork.
but it nice to get an idea of what's she will look like ; )
