Component video help

Hey guys,

I'm having a strange problem though it's not really a big deal.

When booting my Mame PC hooked up to a CRT TV via Component cables the picture is scrambled  when booting until I reach the Windows welcome screen then everything is fine (hence why I said not really a big deal)

I've heard arcade monitors do the same thing unless using one of those Arcade video cards. Is there any other way around this? If I want to access bios I have to hook up a normal monitor. Thanks! Please let me know

I have the same problem with component and my led TV.  You could put your TV/monitor on a delay but its just one of those annoying things in this hobby.

Yes you would have to hook up a slave vdu for BIOS.  Or you could always VM your install.....

You mean I can access the bios from another PC on the network? Thanks for reply btw!

The screens prior to windows display in a resolution that isn't compatible with your TV?  There's usually nothing that can be done.  What video card are you using?

It's a Radeon HD 3870 I think.

Are you using Soft15kHz, CRT_Emudriver, or just the drivers that came with it?  Are you running MAME in native res?

I'm using the normal drivers. Everything works just fine after booting into Windows. It's the post/bios/boot screen that's scrambled :/ It's not big deal. Boot screen etc shows just fine when plugged into Composite/S-video. Sometimes I have to get into bios so it would be nice to find a fix for this. But I doubt one exists.

Yeah, unfortunately I doubt you can do anything about it with reflashing the firmware on the card or hacking your bios to display 15kHz.

Have you tried running MAME games in native resolution with that card?  Are you just running everything at the desktop resolution?
