Battlefield 4 is a special case. I made a rule of thumb several years ago, and basically, if you see a TV commercial that features people saying, "You gotta see this movie!" then that movie should be avoided at all costs. It's a last ditch effort by marketing to generate false word of mouth buzz for a dog. Pay special attention to the actors in these commercials.
For a "family movie" that's too weird, dark, or dull you'll see two parents and kids of at least two disparate ages. (seeing two parents or even a wedding ring in an advertisement for 'family' stuff is VERY rare)
For a date movie, it'll be an attractive woman with her scruffy, yet cleaned up boyfriend that can't help but admit he enjoyed it.
Battlefield? Dudes that look like they've never played a video game in their lives.
All roles that the target viewer projects themselves into.
