Anything to configure in Groovymame or just use it?
« on: October 07, 2013, 12:54:23 pm »
I have a Radeon 4980 and CRT_emu drivers installed.  I downloaded the groovymame exe and generated the .ini file.  Loaded up some ROMs and they seem to look fine. They appear to be running in native res but I am not sure how to ID exactly what the resolution is that is being picked.

I am just wondering if there is any settings menu, file, or anything I can/should edit. I don't see anything other than mame.ini and I haven't been able to find any documentation about Groovymame settings or config.  I hear people on this forum talking about TV presets... do I need to do anything to optimize my setup?  I am hooked up to a toshiba 27a50 over VGA transcoded to component.  Is everything just expected to "just work?"  I haven't been able to test some of my favorite games yet as they report a missing ROM, which is odd since they worked in base mame 1.5.

Yes, I'm going from VGA to a TC1600 transcoder, to component in on TV. So it's an unscaled RGB color signal. - this was an answer to a post no longer here.

You need to setup  through arcadeOSD

So when I launch ArcadeOSD, I see a ton of resolutions available, and I can test them or set desktop to them.  Most of them work when I choose test.  What exactly do I need to set up?  I used this tool to set my desktop to 480i but other than that what do I need to do with it?

I think you need to launch vmmaker after you changed the settings to your preferences in the ini file. You should try this site:
http://postback.geedorah.com/foros/viewtopic.php?id=1424

and translate it with google if needed. There must be also much information right here. Im sorry I cant help you further since im a groovyarcade user. I did try windows but found it less convenient than the linux distribution.

when starting a rom, one of the windows displayed beforehand gives you the native res of the rom, and then the res that switchres has chosen to use. (unless you have disabled that info)
That should tell you if it's working or not..

Hi Tzakiel,

If yours is an standard TV, then you can probably just leave the default settings ('generic_15' preset). Custom presets are often used for multisync monitors, or for TVs when you can't access the service menu to control the picture geometry, then you can create a custom preset for eliminating horizontal overscan, etc.

Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
