Monitor Mounts?
« on: September 03, 2013, 11:39:04 pm »
I know I could just construct one if I wanted to, but I was wondering if there was any sort of kit available that made it easier to mount large monitors like CRT monitors inside arcade cabinets? Something I could order and then just screw into the cabinet or something.

That would be super awesome.  I have seen monitor brackets for sale, but they were replacements for specific arcade monitors.  A universal one would be nice.

Please let us know what you find.  I'm using Sony Trinitron TV tubes, which have the mounting ears at all four corners of the tube, so I imagine some kind of universal mount should work.

some time ago i thought bout laser-plasmacutting crt mounting frames out of 2-3 mm steel for my tv to arcade conversions . all u have to do is measure some tube mountings and acad it . a sega naomi frame woud be a good start for 29 inch tubes . all european and asian tv tubes will fit in , but no sony trinitrons .  a  problem is to design a universal chassis holder . chassis can be huge or small and sometimes the crt may be oriented vertically in the cab .

I am really honestly kind of surprised that there isn't something out there to be honest. I mean, seriously. There are lots of TV mounts out there, that adjust based on the size of the TV and stuff. But I guess in this kind of industry, why offer someone a cheap alternative when they can charge you like $400.00 for a monitor with a mounting kit instead of charging you $50.00 for a universal, re-sizeable mounting system?

To be honest, I am using a flat panel LCD monitor for my cabinet and I am planning on looking at some of the wall mounts and trying to figure out a way to just anchor that into the inside of my cabinet. I was just hoping there was already something out there for me.

I really think this hobby is just too niche for that kind of product to be viable.  Especially since CRTs are dead, and even the CRT mounts that are available are not the kind of mounts for decased tubes, but instead are something for "normal folk" to mount their CRT on the wall or an a swivel of some sort.

Now on the other hand, there is obviously a HUGE amount of product that has been produced already for this hobby, so I guess something this isn't too out of line to expect.  I know I would like it! :)

Has anyone found anything or come up with some good ways to mount/support de-cased CRT tubes?  I've got a de-cased 27" Sony Trinitron with the four mounting brackets sitting a few feet from me and I'm wrestling with how I'm going to mount it into some sort of case/support so it'll fit into my UAII cabinet.

There are a few examples on this forum and elsewhere on the web on how to mount a monitor/TV in your cabinet.  Wood frames, metal brackets, they really do vary.

This is one of the better write-ups I've seen on this topic: http://www.made-by-bacteria.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=601

I have made these myself based on the Naomi monitor mounts, I used iron plates and soldered the bent portions with an autogenous solder, I had to drill "universal" holes in order to mount them in my different cabs, the downside is that it adds about 5 kilos to the monitor once is mounted on the frame.

I just made mine as well, I have a 25 inch Hanatrex polo and found a 25inch wells gardner frame. Did some cutting and grinding to remove the 2 inches that overlapped the cab (inch on each side) and wala it fit.
