Rack or caddy attached to back of cabinet
« on: September 03, 2013, 03:54:21 pm »
Anyone doing this?  My cabinet is in the dining room and I have a few things that need to stay with it (battery operated hand screwdriver, keys, quarters, 1/4 screws, etc) and I'd like to store them somewhere out of site.  I was thinking attaching something to the back of the cabinet.

Not much luck in finding something other than spice racks and the like.

Just looking for some ideas...

You could... dunno... put them in the cabinet?

It is a cabinet after all.   :)

I would if there was room!   :)  I have a computer, subwoofer, power supply, all of the interfaces mounted on plexi and tons of cables.  No room to spare at all.  It's also a pain to open mine.

Good suggestion though!

I thought about putting a recessed medicine cabinet in the back of A Little Rage, to store controllers in.
But I couldn't find anything that I really liked. But the idea was to cut out the back door, mount the cabinet recessed and flush with the door, and the medicine cabinet door not be locked but easily accessible from the back of the machine.
You could mount it to the cabinet (attached to the back door, but not going through it.)

Is your control panel hinged?   I keep all kind of crap inside the control panel.

Just curious as to why you need to keep a battery operated hand screwdriver with your cabinet?   If your cabinet is in the dining room why don't you just keep the battery operated hand screwdriver with the rest of your tools and just go get it when you need it?   Do you need to screw/unscrew something every time you want to use your cabinet?

Do you have an over/under coin door? Just throw that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in the bucket and be done with it.

It is hinged, but that is something that is not really openable unforatuntely.

I have a modular control panel and the panels are screwed to rack rails.  So when I want to change modules (say a joystick) I need to quickly unscrew, etc.  That's why I have screws also in the event a panel needs them.

It is true though, I could always just grab the screwdriver when I grab a panel, but sometimes I have to fix something or just swap them around for a particular game.

I use my coin door (and the kids love putting quarters in to add credits too).

That would free up a bit of room though.

Settled on this, should hold the screwdriver, coins (in a small plastic container), and the wireless keyboard

Honestly I think it's a bad idea.  When you go to move your cabinet you take a dolly and put it against the back of the cab.  Unless you can easily remove that it's going to be in the way.

Just thought I'd mention that this thing has been PERFECT.  I've moved the cabinet to another room with no issues.  This holds my cordless screwdriver, a tiny wireless keyboard, and a little tray with quarters, screws, and the keys to get in.

If at any point I need to use a dolly, I'll just unscrew it!    :)
