LCD replacement for a 27" Kortek KT-2914F CRT arcade monitor
« on: August 15, 2013, 11:46:57 pm »
I hate this post more than anything in the world, but when the day finally comes, what LCD's are you guys replacing your arcade CRT monitors with?  I will do everything to preserve my Kortek 27" KT-2914F, but I'm having trouble finding anyone that does arcade monitor service in the Boise, Idaho area.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason

Not to sound like my answer to your previous post but your monitor should give you years of trouble free life before you should even have to worry about it.  Remember, these things were originally built for arcades that ran for hours and hours, every day.  Any recommendation today would probably be a moot point in a few years in regards to LCD's.

I'd love an answer here as well .  While I agree that monitor should last a while, I've got a golden tee cabinet with a 27" CRT in it currently that i'm looking to eventually replace with an LCD.  I'd love to know what people are using for replacements as well, and get some advice as to:

  • Comparable 16x9 Monitor / TV Size for comparable 4:3 picture.
  • Brands with smallest non-screen footprint for replacement
  • Minimum recomended refresh rate
  • Any TV/Monitor brands that are multi-sync that can handle HDMI/DVI/VGA and/or handle native Std/Med res signals?

Your best bet with LCDs right now is finding an LCD that handles variable refresh rates and using Powerstrip + GroovyMAME with HLSL enabled to run all your games at their native refresh rate.

It's the closest you're going to get with LCDs. It's still less than ideal, though, because they just don't make 4:3 LCDs with 1ms response time, so it's a matter of picking your poison:

With Powerstrip and GroovyMAME, though, at least the refresh rate issue is solved. Games _will_ run smoothly. HLSL doesn't look exactly like a real CRT, but it's at the point where I'd say it's close enough.

The major remaining hurdle is ghosting/response time issues with LCDs.
