Ideas for pimping out my cab?
« on: July 15, 2013, 05:21:57 pm »
So here's my cabinet:
http://left-click.org/~mdb/cab.jpg

It's very plain looking and yes, I'm going to get a bigger screen soon. (It's currently 20 inches 4:3)  But besides that, anyone have any good ideas how to make it more neat-o?  Neon lights?  New marquee?  It's kind of already too late to change the plain Jane shape of the thing, but maybe not.  I saw this guy's: ( https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-CAG2t6-n0yY/UGH6HbmUdxI/AAAAAAAAAnk/DVjgD6jxf6Y/s837/IMG_7566.jpg ) and besides the controls being too busy, that's the slickest thing I've ever seen.  And it was making me jealous.

TLDR version: Just fishing for ideas to make my arcade more visually appealing but not excessively gaudy.

I'm also going to put an overlay over the X-Arcade and cut it down so it will be flat on the cab.  That way it won't look like a prefab that's just sitting there.  Is it terribly difficult for someone with no experience to replace the buttons with the clear, LED lit ones?  Expensive?

the art work is the million dollar question - many have spent weeks/months/years trying to find that all inspiring artwork. Good luck with your quest :)
My art is always free for you to download and modify as you see fit...
Why?... because I could never find any art I loved on the net. So I played around with Photoshop and wish to share it with the arcade community.

It's not hard to swap the buttons for single color LED buttons.

Check out the threads here and here for more details and links.

The difference is the red and black .250" daisy chains (shown below) used to power the LEDs.

I would look into some t-molding. If you are unable to cut the slot for the molding then maybe use some paint.
