So, is there a giant robot spider scene or not?

It was hard to tell.  I think they switched the channel to Independence Day at one point and there may have been some Wild Wild West.

There have been several "what if" scenarios written about the character to prove this....

Lol.

Anyway, I haven't seen it but my wife did and she said it was good. Then after her friend, who really liked it, left, she said it sucked bad, but didn't want to hurt her friend's feelings

Frankly, if most of the story would have been the same as we all know from comics and previous movies, I don't know why anyone would pay to see it, because we've already seen it.  It's like not the Star Wars franchise where they can milk the same thing over and over.  That's one reason I enjoyed the new Spider-Man.  It wasn't the same old story that I know.  There was no Mary Jane among other changes.  At least they try to do things a little differently.  See what works.  If they just rehashed the same old stuff, we'd be lambasting them for being unoriginal.

The new Spider-man also sucked.
I'm a real die hard comicbook fan and thought Amazing Spiderman was the best out of all the Spiderman movies. They are finally pretty much following the comic story. Now Supes not a fan of and I always thought if they followed his story as per comicbooks it would suck anyways.

actually the amazing spiderman was very true to true comics ie...gwen stacy was parkers first love ..........but yeah I thought it was good just wasn't 2 keen on the giant lizard but I guess they were staying true to the comics and needed to do something different than the last 3 movies

For those that complain about cannon and mythos: which are you talking about? Comics have, for some time, banked on "multi-dimensional" story branching (i.e. kind of lazy retelling--reselling--mechanic). So why can't you accept that this movie is a new dimensional branch in the cannon? Because you can't hold it and turn pages?

I've seen some serious love for the Injustice branch, and while it has a comicbook companion, it is mainly a videogame, yet I've seen no one screaming about destroying cannon over it.

I think you've completely missed the point of seeming a movie if story element differences ruin the experience for you.  You have to go in with as-near-zero expectations as you can.

Zero expectations? You make zero sense. Superhero movies prey on and survive by audience expectation.

To be honest, I don't care at all whether a movie is, like, true to the source material except to the extent that it makes the movie better (which, admittedly, it often would). Cider House Rules condensed a 40+ year story into the span of a summer vacation, and the movie was better for it--not better than the book, but better than trying to squeeze that whole story into a 2-hour film. Anyway, I'm willing to give filmmakers a ton of latitude so long as their changes are smart. Unfortunately they usually aren't, of course. :)

OK, heres the deal man, I'll forget the fact that you are an adult male who admitted to both reading and watching Cider House Rules (and enjoyed it) if you promise to never, ever derail a superman thread into a Cider House thread.

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

How could I slip up and admit to reading one of the three best and most popular novels of one of the most widely respected living American writers. Humiliating. What'll I be admitting to next, Steinbeck?

You're comparing John Irving to Steinbeck? Pfft! Not the same league. Steinbeck could ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- out the alphabet soup he had for lunch and it still would be a better read than Irving. If Steinbeck decided to write an essay on the merits of suicide, the human race would cease to exist. Steinbeck once wrote a book so powerful that it had a 3 day battle with Chuck Norris.

To be honest, I don't care what you think of the book. The thing that I am laughing at is the Tobey man-crush going on that would prompt you to interject Tobey romance into a superman thread. I now know why you hate spiderman. That upside down spider kiss gave you the quivers and you don't want your Tobey-crush to slip. Well, enjoy your tobey bro-mancin'. I look forward to the Wolverine thread where you tell us how Seabiscuit is so much better.    >:D

The problem with this one is simply that the creative involved was venturing into new territory. If the Superman comics and history had been tweaked for decades into a much darker and grittier line such as Batman had undergone... it would've gone over better to the masses. DC tried going there but to quite a bit of resistance.

Seriously, you have Nolan, Goyer, and Snyder at the helm and you expected Christopher Reeve and Richard Donner? Not fair nor realistic.
