Cocktail Cabinet For 4
« on: June 23, 2013, 06:24:07 am »
A new world for me and i think the good old cocktail cabinet. For the past 5 weeks I've been learning and working with Sketchup to make my cabinet design and now I'm ready for some critiquing. It's not the complete design but most of it's there. The control panels are close to the finished product but up for change.
now where to see it http://cocktailarcade.tumblr.com/
the colors of the buttons
Red = Fight, ect., ect.
Blue = Pinball (that's right I'm also going for a bit pinny play as well)
Green = Pause and Exit
White = Coin and Player
Yellow = Mouse

Welcome aboard, Bclark.

Two things to consider:

1. Are you SURE you want the TRON stick? (Specialized 4/8-way hybrid restrictor pretty much makes it good for just one game)

2. It looks like you have one flipper button on each side of the end player's control panel and another (?) on the body of the cabinet.

You may want to add a plunger/ball launch button.

Also consider adding a second flipper button per side for Upper Flipper and MagnaSave -- search for my posts with "MagnaSave".

The Tron stick is just a representation of the Happ Heavy Duty 8-Way Joystick with 2 Fire Buttons

the other button on the body of the cabinet is for the plunger/ball launch and i really like the idea of the extra buttons thank for that i never knew there where pinball games with 2 buttons on each side

Seems a bit clunky with the side panel layout.  It's a tough nut to crack design wise.  Take a look at

Mamey Page

and

cocktail table project.

Both of these have the pop up screens like you're looking at doing.  Good inspiration there.

This.

Plus the viewing angle from the side is going to be questionable at best. I'd definitely think about knocking up a mock up (with a sheet of glass in place) to see how reflections, etc are going to play out on the screen.

Still, it'll be interesting to see where you go with this idea. And welcome aboard!

the other button on the body of the cabinet is for the plunger/ball launch
Consider moving the plunger to the edge closest to the player like it is on a real pinball machine.

Bonus points if you can reach the plunger (launch) with your right thumb without your fingers leaving the right flippers.

Thanks everyone for the tips so far. I've added the extra pinball buttons and moved the launch button.

I've added some more pics on my Tumblr Blog http://cocktailarcade.tumblr.com/

A run down of the pics is on the backside of the arcade cabinet a draw that pulls out for use a as a desktop pc and all so for analog flight stick games like Afterburner. as well as a projector stand for arcade on the big screen. as so you would notice the screen tilts both directions what not shown is the second set of gas struts(lazy with Sketchup).

Also the cabinet is not yet pretty looking I have to learn a bit more Sketchup but soon it will rock.

oh and already got plans to change the 4 player panel and make a forth side panel with the flight stick and spinner also add a dedicated Happ analog flight stick and second 8-way flight stick for tank style game.(pics up soon)
