T-Molding for Journey??

Hi everybody.

I magically could import a Journey-Cab to Germany and though there's much work to do I am really happy with it

One thing that seems impossible to find is the original t-molding. I bought THIS ONE but it turned out to be a different color. The original is more turqoise. PLUS the original t-molding is rahter flat, the light blue one is curved a little. It seems all the available stuff it the same.

Any hints if there is some other t-molding out there that matches more the original?

I haven't seen any, you could buy white and then dye it to the color you need using RIT or other fabric dyes.

Didn't know this is possible...or are you kidding?? 

I might also try to 'bleach' the light blue one but I think it's difficult to get the correct color.

I'll take a look at the RIT Dye and see if there's something similiar available over here...thanks for the hint

We dye all sorts of stuff over at bmxmuseum.com.  Tuff Wheels, ACS Z-rims, seats, grips.

It works a treat!

Vinyl dye is also GREAT on plastic parts, even buttons that get heavy use.

Make sure you spray in very VERY light coats.
You might not be able to get exactly the color you want.

Here is the link to Rit's website showing how they dyed buttons.  Almost the same material as our t molding.  I would try to stay away from anything that is sprayed on.  Dye will actually permeate to the core of the object.  If you spray paint something it will only cover the surface and you will start to get cracks when you bend your t molding.  Good luck.  Don't forget to re post to show us your findings.   

PS Use a white t molding to start off with.  Think of it like using a blank sheet of paper.  The color yield will be brighter also.

While the vinyl dye I suggested is sprayed on, it DOES permeate the surface and soak in to the core of the plastic. If done properly, you can scratch it all you want with your fingernails, and it won't come off.

I've done multiple dashboards and door panels with it. I even did some computer DVD burners with it, from white to black, or white to blue.

I absolutely love the stuff.

The only real down-side is that it only comes in a few colors.

And I agree...start with white to get a nice bright crisp color.

I dyed a blue dashboard black, and it turned out great. I also dyed a black dashboard blue, and the blue was a few shades darker than what the cap was.

And get this...you can even use the stuff on carpet! You just gotta brush it out afterwards, otherwise the carpet will be stiff, like a wire brush.

I've done multiple headlines with it, too, including the gray one in my van. I dyed it black, and it looks factory.
