I used to be super impressed by formation flying but modern jets take all the fun out of it.  They can synch together now so that one jet flies the others in formation.  They can even program certain break away patterns on the fly, all without a pilot having to touch the stick.  Now I'm super impressed with the tech and engineering of it but less impressed by the pilots of these marvels.  That's probably not very fair since today's craft are so much more versatile and powerful than yesteryear's but it feels like some of the magic is gone.

Yeah a few years ago I flew a fly-by-wire aircraft for the first time and it felt like I wasn't really involved.  It's not much different from turning the autopilot on.
