IT'S NEW!  IT'S UNORIGINAL!  IT'S ANOTHER WEECADE!   ;D

After ranting like a madman yesterday this is a new introduction to my weecade.  I have ran into a couple problems with the CP which I will start fresh tonight.  Over all I'm happy with what I have accomplished so far.  The build is nothing original but I set out to build it for myself because everyone seemed so happy with theirs.

If the rest of the thread doesn't make sense its because I had a nonsensical rant that did a fabulous job of me making an ass of myself.  The first couple of replies here were in response to that rant.

Pictures at the bottom.

Post Script

The artwork seen in the marquee was taken from member donnie1979 and is just a place holder until I can figure out what to do.

Links are broken because you're doing it wrong. It needs to be {url=http://link.here}desired link text{/url} and replace the { } with [ ].
Also, you don't need the {url} and {/url} if you just type/paste the address like so: http://www.google.com

I don't get it. Do you hate the weecade design, or just your lack of skill/patience/commitment/whatever?

  • I am good at liking video games
The first one is always hard.

The frustration you feel now is about the same amplitude as the reward you'll feel once it's done.

@ Nephasth  Thank you.  I don't know why I can't remember to just put the address in.  I always want to put the url hyperlink in.

@edekoning  I never had any grand ideas that I would be Bob Villa going in.  And in no way do I loath the weecade design.  I am just frustrated with the fact that I work and re work things.  I get ahead of myself mess up and fix things and that starts to eat away time.  I just need to take a step back, take a breath and come back to it and  work through it.  I think what is getting me is I have to completely rework the CP.  But hey.  It took Edison 1,999 tries to invent the light bulb.

Good thing I posted when I did.  I would hate to be over shadowed by one of Ond's or Sjaak's build.

I think the thing I learnt the most building my 2 full-sized ones is that no plans are set in stone.  I started with a basic idea....normally just the side profile...and just started and kept reading here.

Just keep swimming.

Precision woodworking is WAY harder than it appears.  I never did master it, but still enjoy my cabinet.  IMO the right tools can make up for a bit of inexperience (e.g. a drill press makes proper button alignment and spacing easier vs. freehand), but ultimately there are going to be flaws.  Oh and yes it takes a ridiculous amount of time.

  • Bartops all the way !
    • BARTOPMANIA
Cheer up !

One of our members at bartopmania had made a beautiful SFIV bartop, sold it, sent it to the customer...
And had it sent back because the delivering ended up like a nightmare and the sweet bartop was smashed to pieces...

I think it is good to get some kind of help along the way for a first build. I asked the help of a friend nearby who set up the wiring and the video excerpts of games for me on Mala, because I couldn't do it.

I think there are positive things in your build : the shape looks ok and the openigs for the speakers look really nice !  ;)

+1.  I thought it looked good.  Bartops are next for me.  I understand that bartops are actually HARDER than full cabs but because of their size, they're actually more difficult.

Thanks everyone.  Sorry for acting like a teenage girl.  Bad way to start on any forum.  I have had a bad couple days and this was no way to present my weecade.  Like I have stated before I have let this thing become my version of Frankenstein's monster and I just needed to walk away for a couple of days.

I had a nice dinner with my wife last night and I'm ready to go at again.

@AGarv  The sad thing was I used a drill press.  The other sad thing was the fact that I used the wrong template from slagcoin.com and my buttons were too close together.  This lead me to "free handing" the button holes a second time which lead to them being really messed up.  So instead of fixing it a third time I am going to start fresh with this tutorial http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,51235.0.html and with this bad boy from amazon for my joystick holes.  http://www.amazon.com/MLCS-9674-Brass-Template-Guide/dp/B000NDPS4M/ref=pd_bxgy_hi_img_y  I'll take my time and hopefully it won't look like a wood filler nightmare.   :lol

@The Dude  I really am proud of the speaker holes as weird as that sounds.  But that was what I took my time on.  And I just need to do that for the project.  Take my time and put it aside if it starts to take over.   I didn't do that with the CP.  I think that took me a total of 4 hours and it definitely shows.  With everything else I took my time, measured twice cut once, and it came together nicely.

What I have also learned is that is seems most of everyone is putting their cabinets together in a day.  This.  isn't.  true.  I went back and looked at projects and their timestamps.  I was amazed to see how much time had passed between peoples first post and their final posts.  Some had two year spans.  Again that was just me being hasteful and thinking this would be a snap.

@AJ  Thanks for the Disney motivation.   ;D  The only thing I really find hard about the weecade is the space.  Which you can see by the pictures below.
I did the CP too quick and ran into problems.  1/4 inch on either side problems.

Again thanks for the motivation.  I'll be back at it tonight with a fresh start and I will rework the thread to be more of an introduction and less of a "WAAAAAAAHHHHHbulance" thread.

Because this thread isn't going in 17 different directions already, this is the Spaceman Spiff CP thread that I started a month ago.  The artwork is still in it's infancy if anyone wants to help.

Man, you must be stressing out hardcore - you started that in February.  My notions of time go right out the window when I start stressing, anyway, so I'm assuming that's the cause, here.

The Spaceman Spiff theme idea is a good one.  C&H is underrated.  Even if it were widely considered the greatest newspaper comic ever, it would still be underrated.
