I did try doing a search here but Im just not coming up with anything so, Im hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a tutorial on how to install a bigger hard drive on my xbox to run emulators for a cab of mine. Im new to modding and am very interested in the Coin-ops 5 emulator too, so once again, if anyone can point me out in the right direction it be immensly appreciated! if the project gets to be too much, does anyone know of someone who can do this as a service?( larger harddrive install and coin-ops 5 emulator), thanks again everyone!!

Is your Xbox already Hard Modded?  If so then its about as easy as putting a new hdd into the xbox and booting from whatever the latest flavour of autoinstaller deluxe disk is in use.  Let us know if you do have a hard mod and if so what chip, I'm sure I can dig something up for you.

I sent you a PM with a guide for Xecuter 3

A lot of the mod info is out there you just have to look for it.

CoinOPS 5 will need a 80gb drive minimum for the complete install with room for Dragon and the new stuff that keeps coming out.

There are Lite versions you can run from the DVD once you have soft modded it.

I think you have enough there to get yourself started.

Look out for AID 4.0 to help in your softmod endeavours.

www.xbox-scene.com used to be the go-to site for xbox modding.

Thanks again everyone, Ive decided on not doing a soft mod, because this xbox is gonna be the centerpiece of my arcade cabinet, so Id like to get the bigger harddrive and most comprehensive emulator. The only other question I have is, Am I going to need a mod chip in the console.

If you want to upgrade the HDD and run emulators/CO5, you will need to mod it somehow, either with a soft mod or with a chip. Duo chips are pretty affordable, and most Xbox's are easy to mod.

Don't let the softmod intimidate you, I was able to mod mine with the hotswap method in about an hour...
...I did a good amout of reading and gathered all the necessary software first though.

Only reason I really prefer the chip method is that if you mess up when soft modding it, the only way to fix is with a chip.

What model xbox do you have? 1.6's are the most difficult and require rebuilding the LPC. All previous versions require you to solder in a pin header and a single wire to the board. Of course you could also go with a solderless adapter, but those are becoming more difficult to find.

Hey Lucky. I'm in the same boat as you. I think I'm going to do a modchip install. The instructions I found are not really that hard.

I plan to buy a duox modchip, it's only $25.

As for coinops 5, that took a long time for me to get. I had to sign up at a torrent site and download it from a torrent. I downloaded the full version so it was over 50GB in size.

I only have the xbox as well, and a larger IDE hard drive. I'm just making sure the modchip method is the easiest since I don't own any of the games required for a softmod.

I'll keep you updated with my process too :)

I'm actually seeing bad things about the duox3 chips now :(

Trying to find the more reputable chips, but no place has them in stock.

I'm a big fan of doing hardmods.  You can put a fresh drive in it, boot off a Slayers disk, and format the thing without having to mess with hot swaps and copying files over.  The first step is to find out what version of xBox you have.  If you have a 1.6, I'd look for another xbox.  The soldering on the bottom can be a big pain on a 1.6 unless you know what you are doing.

As far as the quality of chips goes, I've had good luck with the DuoX2 and the Aladdin XT when it comes to cheapo chips.  The Duo is a bit nicer as it has two memory banks and enough space to hold a VGA modded bios if you want to go that route.  Paypal really cracked down on sites selling modchips so they aren't too easy to find.  DealsExtreme used to have the Aladdin XT for ~$5 before they purged their site of mods to keep paypal.
Don't spend $25+ on a chip unless it is Xecuter.  If you want to pay for quality, go with Xecuter.  I also recommend looking up TSOP flashing.  This is enabling flashing of the stock xBox memory with an alternative bios.  I've done this a few times just to see how difficult it was.  You have to do a softmod first and jump through a few hoops but the results are mostly the same as having a chip.

If you run into trouble, send me a PM, I'm happy to help.

Other stuff to think about:
- Vision is cooler than coinops at this point and is put together by the same guy, BP.  I'm a mod at the coinops forum so I'm pretty well versed in them both.
- I work with Degenatrons and Bootsector on the KADE encoder and I think it is the best controls encoder for xBox 1 + Coinops/ Vision.  I'm not biased at all.
