Mame Help!
« on: March 22, 2013, 08:39:29 pm »
I just picked up my first empty cab to start finally building my multi-arcade-machine.  I'm going to use Hyperspin for the front end, and primarily Mame, but will have a few other emulators setup.

I'm wanting to setup Hyperspin with the platinum membership so that it will automatically download the backgrounds, vids, etc from Emumovies.  The problem I have is that I can't seem to find a current accurate rom set to use.  I have plenty of roms, but would like to get a set with the correct names and .148 so that I can get them to sync correctly.

Can someone point me in the right direction?  What's sad is I'm actually extremely tech savvy, but for some reason just can't get my head around what I want to do with this.  I didn't know if I can upconvert my earlier revision roms or where I can even get a proper new set.

If you have a mishmash of roms then the best thing would be to track down a full set I use 143 but the latest is obviously 148

Or you can get CLRMamepro and the dat file for 148 and it can go through your existing roms removing any that are not correct.
You can then get a full set and it will only download the missing files.

If you want to use hyperspin then you can use dons hyperspin tools and or Fuzzy renamer which will look at the files you have and look at the xml file and then it will allow you to rename accordingly.

In all reality the easiest and IMHO best method would be to get a full set and then use Hypersync on that.

Thanks Nick.  I guess I'm just trying to figure out this whole chd thing also.  I ended up getting a pretty much complete .143 set (my set I had previously was something like .60 and was very incomplete.  I'm still missing the CHD's for some of the games.

Do I just get the CHD's and put them in the rom directory, or should I try to go up to .148 first then do the same?
