CPO Feedback
« on: March 12, 2013, 03:16:53 am »
I finally decided to suck it up and learn some basic photoshop.  The result is the CPO you see here.  Heavily borrowed ideas from Martijn's CPs, but had to make some modifications due to my lack of photoship skills.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. I'm a little concerned about the button/joystick surrounds; mainly wondering if their sizing is appropriate.

Good start, but you can't see many of the characters as they are hidden by the controls, some of them completely such as Apocalypse (I think that is who it is...hard to tell) under the P1 joystick. I think it might work better if you removed the characters from the boxed frames an placed them strategically around the control area. Also it would be a good idea to vector them as they are quite pixilated and is very noticable when you have the higher resolution graphics for the  buttons and such next to them. Another benefit of vectoring the characters, would be that you can resize them and over lap them as needed without when placing them around the CPO.

+1 on not covering up the characters, especially since there is so much blank space available.

Consider shifting/rearranging the characters and frames so that they are more clearly visible.

Also consider downsizing the Marvel vs. Capcom logo in the center.

I agree with Scott and Dekieon.  Plus instead of having three or four characters from the same game or comic take your favorite giving yourself more spaces to have a wide variety of characters from each universe.

I actually like the photos he picked, but maybe that's because the M3 versions have been used ALOT recently.

The big issue is there is no sense of unity with the various design elements (logo, character art, or joystick/button outlines).  As a result, everything clashes and it makes for a messy looking layout.

If I was me, my first choice would be to just ditch the character art altogether.  It doesn't tie into any other design elements and covering up the various characters doesn't look good.  I would also try other designs for the button borders to see if it's possible to tie in better to the Marvel vs Capcom logo.

Second choice would be to ditch the Marvel vs Capcom logo, and fade the character art (like the logo), and try to rework the character boxes to avoid having so many covered up and in particular being 'decapitated' by the button/joytick art (i.e. Collusus, Wolverine, etc).

Third choice (if you want both character art and logo) would be to shrink the Marvel vs Capcom logo until it doesn't overlap the characters, then fade the character art so it looks on the same "plane" as the logo.  The way it is now, it looks too messy with everything overlapping the way it does.

I really appreciate the input. Changes are being made, but they're coming slow. In any case, an update will come once I'm finished.  In the mean time if anyone else has any other feedback I'm still taking in.  The CPO has already been revised a few times because of new posts.

I've decided to get rid of the MvC2 characters and border thing.  It was easy to find the MVC3 characters in high res, so I will work with that (a character collage seems popular).  I'll also work on tying everything together in a theme rather than a hodge podge of randomness (change some borders/background colors around).

It's not very original, but here's the current build I'm looking at.  Please let me know all of your thoughts, the last round was extremely helpful.

My main concern is the background.  Are the colors/tint ok?  This might be a dumb question, but how did you guys decide the button placement on your cp?  It looks like the right and left side player joystick/buttons aren't positioned evenly on their respective sides.

Again, all feedback/criticism is much appreciated.  Thanks!

It is Marvel vs. Capcom, so with that in mind, I think the Marvel characters should be on the left and the Capcom to the right.

I love the image of Deadpool , but I would either move him down a bit so his head and shoulder arn't covered up, or remove the circle around the joystick and just keep the direction arrows.

I don't know who those Capcom charafters are. I would go with something a little more recognizeable.. RYU, Blanka, Megaman, etc

The colouring is very nice. It's bright and grabs your attention.

At the very least (assuming you want to keep all the elements), I would fade both the logo and the characters.  Reason being is everything is overlapping and looking like it's trying to occupy the same space visually.  So it looks too busy.  If you fade things so they look more layered, it will look cleaner.

Alternatively, get rid of the characters entirely and go for a simpler layout.  IMHO, simpler is often better.

Yup, he's from Strider.

Surprised you haven't played it or heard of it.  It was a reasonably well-known game.
