  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hey everyone,

I recently bought a Gaunlet Legends cabinet. Sadly I was pretty much fleeced with the purchase, and although I plan to MAME the cabinet, I'm finding missing parts pretty much every day that I work on it :-(

Using a VGA connection thankfully I have been able to test and confirm the 27 Inch Wells Gardner 9200 is functional, however I have a loose ribbon cable (5 wires) coming from the back of the monitor, which I assumed is for the Remote board (which I have recently discovered is missing)

So I found a replacement Remote Card for the D9200 on Ebay, but... the connector is a different size to my loose ribon cable (The remote card connector is slightly smaller)
So.. Have I miss diagnosed what this loose ribon cable is, or are there different remote boards for the 9200?

Looking at the offical Wells Gardner schematics guide for the D9200, the mystery ribon cable appears to be coming from the Deflection Board, via connector W102.

So 2 questions:
Where does the Remote card actually plug in?
If it's W102, then my connector is too big to fit the Remote card I just bought.. so am I screwed?

Thanks for any input.

Best Regards,
Simon

This is a D9200 remote board.  Is it what you have?  If not, it's really simple to make.  It's just some pushbuttons hooked up to wires.

As you may have found out, it's safe to run this monitor without the remote.  This is often not true of fully analog monitors.

Thank you MonMotha,
That's exactly what I bought from ebay.
But the connector coming from my monitor is bigger than the cable on the Remote:

The circled image is the one that came with the Remote card. It's kind of hard to see but it's smaller, and the connector above has 2 Teeth on it too.

Well, I've never seen that connector on a D9200 remote.  It looks like a Molex SPOX, which was used on the Kortek (Betson) monitor, though in a 4 pin variant, and on the Happ/Tovis monitor.  I guess make 100% sure you have a D9200.

It's possible that they used different connectors on different revisions of the D9200.  If you're confident you've got a D9200 and can confirm that the pinout is correct, you can easily buy the parts to put the mating connector on your monitor's ribbon.  It's a JST XH series.  You can get them from Digi-Key in singles.

I could be showing my ignorance here but I'm basing my identification on a chassis sticker;

I may not however have the correct cable from the board which I'm assuming is for the remote card since I don't see what else it could be for !?
If it is the same cable, the pinpouts seems the be reversed as the striped or white wire is on the opposite pin to that of the cable included with the remote board.

Is it worth me posting the screenshot of the schematics so I can show you exactly where the cable is currently coming from within the monitor (w102)?

This is where my remote board plugs in.

THANK YOU! You have all been so helpful

So that confirms the remote plug in, mine also plugs into the same place.
My new remote card just oddly has a different connector size.

Maybe it's not the right remote board then, for another Wells Gardner maybe?
Unlike the image shared earlier, mine has no writing, but the button layout is identical.
This is mine..

Can anyone confirm the pinouts?
Maybe I can cut and splice this ;-)
If i compare the existing ribbon cable from my monitor with the one that arrived with the remote card,Pin #1 (white stripe) I believe is on the opposite side.
You can't see it so well in my pic but my pin #1 (white) is to the left in my image.
I just want to make sure I don't wire this backwards ;-)

Thanks again everyone for your input.

Here is a pic of my control board and connector

The connector is 5 pins OD=15x5mm ID=14.5x4mm
I highlighted the keyed (cutouts) in green in the bad pic (sorry)
I am not sure what the pinouts are however
