First attempt at control panel art
« on: February 12, 2013, 03:04:31 pm »
Hi,First attempt at using illustrator to design a control panel for a Ninja Turtles bar top arcade i am thinking of building. As i say this is the first ever thing that i have done using the program so any feedback, tips, or advice is welcome.

Thanks.

Clean and simple, Just how I like it.  What resolution are you using for the panel?  The artwork seems to lack sharpness which may just be compression but could be that the original artwork is not High enough res.

The Button Halo's, is that really how you plan on laying out the buttons, the angle looks a little severe.  And I am not sure the bottom left button would clear the joystick plate. Have you looked at the templates from slagcoin?

Also the two buttons up top (P1/P2 Start?) are right up against the edge.

Will that clear the underside supports on your CP?

Thank you for the reply. Having looked at the templates at slagcoin i can see that you are right. The angles do look way off and the joystick needs to be moved. I had not based the design off of anything, this was just a play around to see what i could do ( so angles and measurements are probably really far off). That link will prove very useful when i get more serious when i begin to build the actual cabinet and have some sizes to go off. The resolution for the image is 300ppi but i think it compressed to 72ppi when i saved to upload it.  Thank you for feedback.

Probably not, will have to move them around a bit and re-design the angle of the buttons.  Thank you for your feedback, this has given me food for thought and something to go at for now.

I might add a few more characters to the image and maybe some arrows around the joysticks. Will have to play with the illustrator program a bit more and see what else i can do.

Honestly, I think you have just the right amount of characters. I also like the fact that no part of their bodies is cut off or obscured by your controls.

:stupid,  (Although I am not calling Yotsuya "Stupid")

Maybe some simple arrows around the joysticks, but definitely no additional characters.

You should put a trackball in J/k I like.
Some directions arrows or slight design around the buttons always looks nice and gives seperation from the background pattern.
