2-Player Street Fighter Themed Bartop
« on: December 03, 2012, 05:42:46 pm »
Number 3 - "2 Player Bartop"

Got a ton of the work done last night, side panels were already cut and shown in this thread "Trio of Bartops"

Side panels trimmed to accept the future control panel box

Supports added

Chose to use particle board for the base because my MDF board is too thick, would add to much height to the thing

Cp base glued and clamped in place, all screws used on this are just to hold pieces together and will be removed and filled up after it dries

Cp top cut and rounded

Sanding any blemishes or miss cuts

Smooooooth

Laptop mount made out of 0.75" x 0.75"

Speaker panel cut and added

Paint + Speaker holes drilled and special gap routed behind it

Had to remove the control panel cause I forgot to route for t-molding first, not a big issue. Also easier to add the final layer of paint with it off.

Routed

I broke one of the contacts on the speaker that came on the PC amplifier (cheap thing), so I replaced both of them with some TV speakers I had from a broken screen set. Hooked up to the amp and all is well again, actually sounds way better.

Well done CoryDee.
you are staying busy these day.  :applaud:
This reminds me of a SF bartop I did a couple of years back. Mounted the CP the same way. (but it made it really heavy).
Gave it to my brother (sorry I don't have any finished pics)

Always wondered about bartops; WRT Street Fighter and more "complex" games, how's the two player playability considering the close spacing?

This one is pretty much identical to the lightning two player bartop I made. That one was actually just perfect enough to not be too big and not too small to be played two-player without bumping each other. Granted you are not standing in front of it like a full size so it isn't a problem to be at a slight angle. I really don't like the idea of the width of the control panel being the width of the entire cab. The game I find myself playing with others the most is Marvel vs Capcom 2 and it plays beautifully on the thing.

Awesome.  And that's what got me thinking, I noticed your larger control panel. It all makes sense, good to know.

Cut the acrylic for the CP, then used the flush trim bit on the bastard to keep it clean

Tiny screws to hold it in place - ( angled shot )

Got my Avery stickers in and clear coat in hand - Let's see how it works out

Test print to get everything perfect - ( make sure to set the printer settings to label )

The clear coat should soak into the sticker and let the aluminum shine through

Back panel work - organizing the spots, drilling starter holes, routing out the other side so they can screw in properly

Primed and painted 1st coat

I made one too, 5 years ago and I also gave it to my brother. I think people request a 2 player bartop because they want the best of both worlds. They want to play 2 player street fighter AND they want to save space. Personally, they should give up on trying to save space because once the machine is this big, it needs a special stand or something to hold it up. Should just go with a full size.

Here's mine:

This two-player is actually quite toight, fits almost everywhere my single player ones can fit. This design is quite space saving.

Back panel electronics installation - one of my favorite parts

Ended up putting one of the terminals on the bottom because I didn't like how the power wires were being stretched a little bit

I apologize for the ---smurfy--- pictures taken in this room, the lighting is horrible for my camera

Aluminum marquee retainers (these ones fit!) - they are currently drying from paint

Side by side shots with the single player build here "Link"

Don't mind the resolution issue or the "blue screen of death" - these laptops haven't had windows reinstalled on them yet

One on the left I painted the side panels, the one on the right is vinyl

I think the Street Fighter marquee needs more.  It's just those three things floating in empty space.

Mainly it's bad in comparison, because that control panel art is so detailed.  That looks reeeeeaally cool.  Where did that come from?  Link?

I left it blank like that because the cab is a solid black and figured it would look nice

Link to CP orig. image

Image I used is flipped, gave this one because it is a much higher quality\size

That's cool.  Is that Alpha artwork?  I noticed all the original characters are one side with the Alpha ones on the other.  I'm trying to remember where I've seen "Street Fighter" written that font style...

Had to kick up some more dust to get the art applied

CP art on and buttons half in

Marquee looks really nice - minus the dust, need to clean that up as usual when it is all completed and the acrylic loses some static

More of the CP and the finished artsy stuffs

I'd have to disagree on that.

In my case for instance the bartop (which sizewise is sort of between a full size without the bottom part and a bartop) will most of the time have it's place in my "mancave" on our attic but on occasion I want to be able to use it in the living room as well (parties etc.).

In case of a full size it would be hell to get it downstairs and we'd have to move furniture around to give it a good spot. But with my bartop design it's a lot easier to move and we can simply put it on our table or kitchen bar.

Ontopic: going like a fast train there Cory ;) looking good so far.

Thanks floriske!

Am deffinately on track to have it done before christmas, more like a few days of software...or one. We will see, still waiting on the trackball mouse from the ebays for the minecraft build. And the.....uh Jim Morrison themed thingy I am almost done with as well. That one and this street fighter one are neck in neck to be finished nearly the same time.

Smart#s  ;)

That's not an option, we don't want a bartop permanently in our living room and don't have the space for a bartop and a full size on the attic.

the artwork is by Udon , I used it on my Neo2MAME:

I have to agree that the marquee is lacking, it just looks too "meh" even just a giant SF logo on white would look better.
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

I went with a ryu's stage for my marquee background on my SF cab. There are Hi-Res images available from the Street Fighter 2 HD edition. Just a thought.

Re-Spray the back panel because I didn't like the way it looked

Showed the customer some pictures to choose the marquee and he told me to keep the one I already made. Hey Mikey....he likes it!

Nice boot screen.  The cab looks good overall, but the quality of everything else does still kind of make the marquee look weak by comparison.

Looks like you've got some orange peel on the large black areas.  Not sure how you're painting, but here's what I do: build up a fairly thick layer of clear coat by applying a few thin coats one at a time, keep sanding to keep it flat, start using finer and finer sand paper, then finish it off with some rubbing compound and a rag.  I use a 3M auto polishing compound with recycled cotton shirt rags.  I can check exactly what grits of sandpaper and the name of the compound if you're interested.

Orange peel is the texture you get when you paint and don't sand the first coat properly.  It causes the paint to build up and it looks like the outside of an orange.

For your selling rigs what your doing is fine, as getting rid of orange peel and getting a mirror/smooth finish is a ---smurfette---....

For giggles.....

Prime, let dry, and sand, then prime again, and sand with a finer grit sand paper.....get you some tack cloth and wipe it clean....

It should feel really smooth to the touch....first coats should be light, then cut it back with a finer grit sandpaper, then paint again and if you do it right no orange peel......Let dry

Then hit it with like 4 or 5 coats of clear, wet sand, and then you can hit it with a compound, swirl x and then buff with wax......mirror like results....

This is sick....

MY GOD MAN, sounds so time consuming.

I saved that to a text file for later usage, thanks a million.

On the subject of marquee art, can any of you guys that have better ideas than I edit this .psd file with something more fitting to the CP?

Everything I find isn't resizing right and is becoming a pain cause I want to get it to the customer. He already said he liked what I had on it but if I put something better I am sure he wont mind.
