Control Panel Art - Need Help and Critical Eyes!
« on: November 28, 2012, 09:26:33 am »
The theme of the arcade is the "Heart Break Kade".  I was a big fan of wrestling (and if you were to, you know who I was a fan of) at the age I was also a big fan of going to the arcades so it just seemed to make sense to tie the things I enjoyed at that time of my life together.

Anyhow, I'm just not sold this artwork.  My problem is that I already have the "light blue" t-molding so I have to do something that will tie in with that color.  BTW, the split between the image is the horizontal CP and the vertical panel below the glass.

Feel free to suggest something completely different or comment on the attached.  Any input would be appreciated as this artwork just doesn't work for me.  Also, I haven't even thought about the marquee yet, so ideas/input on that would be helpful as well.

Thanks in advance!

How about you do the marquee like the 1st pic the but change the red to blue to match your t-molding.

Not sure this will work but how about putting his signature pose as the control panel (you know, with the fireworks going off behind him). Maybe just his silhouette, just a thought.

Good luck with your build

I really like the silhouette idea.  I think I'll try that.  The only thing I don't like about the red image is the "creation" quote.  But maybe I can remove that.  Thanks!

Took your advice on the silhouette idea... only made it the marquee.  I like this, but would like someone who hasn't been staring at it for hours to take a look.

Any thoughts?

And any thoughts on the control panel since I used the pose idea for the marquee?

Thanks!

Is there enough room for your marquee retainer to not overlap or crowd the text/art?

My marquee retainer is a routed piece of MDF.  (See attached).  That image is set to exactly what the clear open space is and I'll allow for a quarter inch of extra bleed just in case when I print.

I'm still stuck on the control panel... the marquee has grown on me, but I'm having a tough time coming up with a control panel to match.  :banghead:

Thoughts on this for a control panel?  Trying to work something that would tie in with the marquee.

I like that one quite a bit.  I'd change the MAME (tho very well done) to something that evokes the HBK a bit more just to tie things in.  I usually don't go for that button color scheme but with the background it's pretty good.

Thanks Le Chuck.  I appreciate the insight and agree.  I'll play around with changing the mame text to something HBK.

Okay been thinking about this over the weekend and here's my suggestion.
First off how about putting those circles/shapes over the joystick and buttons (see 1st pic) maybe DX colors.
second how about a Shawn Michaels montage image in the background. (see pic 2, 3)
Thinking the montage shouldn't overshadow the control circles but up to you.

Hope this helps a bit.

jmike, thanks for the input!  I like the idea of adding the joystick shapes to the CP.  I've spent so much time on these layouts that I don't know if I can handle a re-do, lol.  I do like some of those images though so I may see if I can work something in.  I'm kinda wanting to avoid putting an actual image of him on there though, don't know why, but kinda want to keep it generic.  Anyways, here is what I've come up with so far.

Feel free to input.  Also, I remember seeing examples of "information" panels, but can't seem to find them.  So any input there is welcomed.

Thanks again everyone for the comments!

BTW the black box on the info panel is for a manual speaker control that is that size.

Got the buttons in the CP... thought I would show those that helped how it's looking so far.  Thanks again jmike and Le Chuck.
