Building again
« on: November 06, 2012, 07:19:08 am »
Hi All,

This is my 2nd build although its only a CP at this stage, I had to leave my last cab behind when a relationship went bad (I only managed to save my old CP) never did finish the bloody thing...

Anyway, new wife now, 3 kids and have to find out if the kids will play MAME before I suggest that I build a new cab (its for the kids hun... Honest!)

This is what my old cab looked like:

As I said, I only managed to save the CP and ofer the passing time this got cut down into 2 seperate pods that somehow were very different sizes, last weekend I managed to re-wire the old oneand put some bracing on it to make a single CP again, while this was functional it was very uncomfortable to use (not got any pics of it sorry) so I have made a start on a new CP to see if the kids enjoy playing on it (they seemed to at the weekend) if all go's to plan, this new CP will house a USB hub with a pen drive plugged into it for plug & play MAME for the kids and I will go on to build a cab for me :)

Pics of progress so far:

Got to re-wire (again) for this panel and then sort out some form of boxing to get it all enclosed and child friendly.

Been looking at MALA as a front end, hopefully I can work out how to make it autorun when the USB stick is plugged in meaning the kids wont be able to mess with anything...

Thanks for reading!

Good luck in your first quest, getting the wife to agree on a cabinet. I wish this wasn't such a hurdle for so many!

Cheers, sadly no progress on this yesterday as a friend needed help with a website he is building & it seems I have forgotten most of the (limited) knowledge of .php that I had...

More work tonight with any luck, although I have seen a trackball on ebay that I may have to add to the CP, it may be a bit squashed on there with it though :/

Good luck in your first quest, getting the wife to agree on a cabinet. I wish this wasn't such a hurdle for so many!

1. Don't tell them until it's finished, cos then even they usually have to agree it's cool.

2. Psychologists have demonstrated that without friends a man is likely to be less successfull, earn less money, have health issues, be less happy and die younger.  If building a cabinet means your friends come round to play then it's "Hun, you don't want me to die do you?"

Simples ;-)

Fair point :)

I am going to post on here as much as possible so that I can keep the motivation up, too many hobbies at the moment & they all seem to cost money  :hissy:

Ahhhh I miss Airsoft. Me and some friends decided to get into it. I bought a bunch of gear and noone else did. After a year of only me having stuff I ditched it. The few times I did play were with the local crazies who had no time for us noobs.

Wow, 3 "hobbies" where no two of them can be combined....unlucky  :timebomb:

I got woodworking, computers, guitar, kids, piano, golf, walking, snooker, darts, arcades, more woodworking, gardening, more kids and photography amongst others.

nearly all of these can be combined in some way, therefore keeping her indoors happy (well happier anyway....)

I am now also borrowing my mate's Baja Beetle and there are bits that need doing on it so less time to play, I did manage to get a white board over the face of the CP though (pics to follow) which is a start...
