Which Design? Need to know in 24 hours!
« on: October 20, 2012, 08:43:42 pm »
Important arcade (Kick plate art) question. Which design?
I got two designs, please ignore the fact these draw ups are EXTREMELY sloppy!
Please use your imagination. Try to imagine what it would look in person.
The one on the right is supposed to be as if the colors on the kick plate matched the Bezel/CP with the same two colors going down the cab.
The first design is a bright yellow that resembles the colors seen on the side art (the yellow on the bottom portion)

Both are bright. Than I got one coming to me right now that is black. But the problem that I have with the background of that kickplate being black is that it resembles too much of the bezel. Right down to the colors. And when you look at it your eyes dont know what to be drawn too. Its like it has too bezels, one on the top, and one on the bottom. That's what I don't like black, not with the red bricks in the middle of the cade. What do you guys think?

The vibrant yellow or the blue/green or black.

The yellow matches the sides, the blue green matches the front. So it's a REALLY tough choice!
Remember all the examples are rendered poorly, some better than others, try to pay attention to the colors over which one looks more real or rendered better.
Which one should I choose?

That's a pretty suite cab, you should think of converting it into a DK or Popeye.

Your eyes should be drawn to the game, bro. Not the kickplate.

I'd like to see the black one.

I would have to agree with yotsuya. But if I had to choose one of these two I would go with the green/blue one. I think it flows better. Just my 2 cents.

So I got two people saying black. I thought black would look cool too. But does anyone hear what I am saying when I am talking about it looking identical to the bezel, and with the split between the two identical designs it looks awkward. But if everyone says black, I guess I'd do it.

If you mean another poor example, lol, than here ya go.
Dont pay attention to the details, as they are simply not there, look at the color scheme.
I need a heck of a lot more opinions, quick. So HOPEFULLY someone sees this and gives me there opinion.

I'd go with the black, just pipes, no characters, especially since they are the same exact ones you use on the bezel.

+1 on losing the characters.

Keep the pipes, bricks, and crab, IMHO.

It implies deeper levels without the repetitive redundancy of including the characters from the bezel.   ;D

Okay. Thinking about white t-molding if I go with black. Black t-molding if I go with yellow. And blue on the blue t-molding on the blue side and green t-molding on the green side for the blue/green kickplate. Which one?

I still need to decide the t-molding and I figure this is the best way to kill 2 birds with one stone..

Im starting to think with the t-molding the blue green will look cool, especially because it's going to have blue/green led CP. And the yellow combined with the black t-molding looks great. plus with that same yellow design the black t-molding makes the orange pop. I like the black too though. But I am only posting the t-molding because I think it's going to REALLY make a difference when combined with the art. It may be a game changer. This is what I had in mind so I might as well spill the beans why I am hesistant with the black.

Black kickplate, white molding. I think that combo looks best, personally.

You you don't want to do is end up being Keith and His Amazing Technicolor MAME Cab. A few complimentary colors look great on a cab. Don't overthink it. If you're lookin to impress your friends, they'll be amazed you have a cab in your house.

Pretty sure that either white t-molding or black is the way to go.

I'd lean a bit more toward black since it works well with the orange.

The green and blue probably won't be an exact color match to the CP, causing it to look "off."   :puke

Most of my split personalities agree with this color scheme as well, so that is like 17 more opinions for this. King Neptune is my only personality that disagrees. He thinks you should take your cab down the the 7-11 and trade it for a bag of Flaming Hot Cheetos. Nobody likes King Neptune.

I am trying to throw it all together in a timely manner. And I always give myself an unreasonable timeline to complete things, I told Rick I would request a certain change and he said he would print on Monday. So I wanted to tell him what I wanted ATLEAST by than. I should of just told him it's going to take a while for opinions. And for me to become comfortable with a decision.

Decided to go with this (not the background just the characters), he may make the characters bigger and make me a black kickplate too based off the original design, it will be flipped around and have the characters removed. Or should the new black kick plate features these guys? But bigger?
He will be making the characters bigger for the yellow version atleast. Don't know what were doing with the black one! With or without characters?

Decided to go with this, he may make the characters bigger and make me a black kickplate too based off the original design, it will be flipped around and have the characters removed.

This yellow one will have these NEW characters enlarged. Should the new black kick plate feature these new characters or is it better with none?

The only downsde to the yellow is that the color is associated with sunshine, so you'll have sunshine "underground"/under your CP.  I don't remember Mike Rowe ever climbing through a brightly colored sewer on Dirty Jobs.

I still think that what it needs is black instead of yellow for the background, pipes, crab, and bricks. (maybe remove the top 3 or 4 layers of bricks, too)  This gives it the look of a lower level of the sewer with the danger of a lurking monster.

The plumbers are on the bezel, they haven't reached the depths under the CP yet.

YMMV.

This is my final answer because your self-imposed deadline is passed.  :lol

I hear what you're saying. But the characters are on the bezel, the marquee. Why not on the kickplate?
I am not sure if you noticed but the ones on the yellow kickplate are DIFFERENT pictures of Mario and Luigi.
If you realize that. That's cool. I guess I can request no characters. But I made like 6 requests tonight, with each one saying to ignore the other one, I feel like I should just give up because I feel like I am getting annoying, and that is good indication that I am.  :banghead:

The yellow one I showed you, would have a black background, bigger characters, in a different order. I also made a request to see it with the blue/light blue rainbow thing featured on the side art for the background.

REALLY guys, no characters at all? Even after the marquee already featuring the characters along with the bezel?

I just realized I am waaay too OCD for this hobby. Lol.

But you guys see what I am saying with the characters already being featured on the cab multiple times? Sides, Marquee, Bezel? Will the Kickplate REALLY throw it off?
If so, I will go without characters.
