Talking about fight club
« on: October 09, 2012, 11:03:28 pm »
So, I occasionally see vague references to other arcade forums but am not always sure what people are talking about. I personally visit:

1. Here, where creative genus flourishes
2. KLOV, great resource for parts, preservationists, first world problems, etc.

I've checked out coinopspace but not sure what the distinctive flavor is there.

What else is out there? Are they invite only or something? Am I missing out on anything important? Any other forums I should be spending time on for arcadey goodness? What really happened in Roswell?

Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

arcadeotaku.com if you like Japanese cabinets. Oh, and Fight Club, what is that? Sir?

There is a lot of crossover from the Shoryuken forum. That is a forum for fighter games and builders of fight sticks and cabs based around fighters.

There are like a hundred arcade forums out there.  Some are regional, some are niche forums like this one, but I think a lot of them are splinter forums started by people who were sick of how one of the aforementioned forums was run.  BYOAC has a splinter, KLOV has many splinters, I'm sure pretty much all of the major forums have them.

I guess the splinters are what I am curious about. I am pretty sure I wouldn't like the tone of the KLOV splinters (and they wouldn't like me, since I butt heads with at least one guy who started one over there) but what about BYOAC? Is that post purgatory that I hear about from time to time? Is it mostly off topic stuff?

Yeah, I need to check that one out.

Agreed. Lots of good info though.

There are splinters, where somebody set up an arcade-related public forum, and then there are the private forums, which contain relatively little arcade-related content.

Or so I hear, anyway.  :dunno

I went on one non-US forum and was called an ---uvula--- for having a crew cab pickup to move arcade games.

Fight Club reference. Self deprecating. So seriously, what is PP and why a splinter from BYOAC? The water is fine here. I'm newer, and have no historical context.

Let it go? LET IT GO??? If this imaginary website you've been talking about existed (and I'm eleventy percent sure that it doesn't) letting it go would be completely against the spirit of the place.

Coin-Op Space is a sort of combination of here and KLOV, in a blog format. While lots of people there are collectors, there's little to no MAME-hate. The format, and intent I'm sure, is more personable - and of course 'share-able'.

A fairly old and now pretty obscure place is Petes-Emulation.com . Of course, there's MAMEWorld. There's the place that Darth Nuno frequents....  The arcade community is small enough that other than the big four either fade into obscurity/die out, or acquire a small die-hard set.

Oh, there's also Arcade Crusade. For example, Frizzlefried's arcade: http://www.asshatarcade.com/

There's an Aussie one called aussiearcade.com.au . Obviously an arcade bent, but covers all things arcadey and console related. It is THE place to go if you are into pinball. The guys there know ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- no one else seems to, anywhere in the world. Top advice, repro plastics, even complete repro motherboards emanate from there. Most of the international members there joined to get advice on pinball.
