I'm thinking about using Peregrine Glove for Arcade Mame

It says it's a standard keyboard device, so yeah, it'll work with MAME.

Powerglove is way cooler though.

As a serious answer the device doesn't seem to be intuitive at all.  If you want to bore your guests by making them memorize a series of gestures to control a game made 30 years ago that was designed for a stick and a button then this device is great.  I'd classify it as an interesting development but not something that is necessary or beneficial to classic gaming.  Now if you wanted to design a game that you blocked balls using your hand then that would be cool but we already have that without the glove... wow... welcome to the future!

Anyway, it looks cool. Aaaand it's a nintendo product so having it on a nintendo cabinet just makes sense.
But, it's for the NES. I don't think it's compatible with the PC. Also, it's not military grade like the other glove. It looks. Well, like a toy (cheap).
I hear the controls on it are also frusterating compared to the other glove. But interesting none the less.

You guys say it's a normal PC device so it will work with mame. But the question is, will someone be able to use a joystick and use the glove in there other hand to make the simple demands (jump, shield, shoot) and have it detected as player 1. Or does it have to be one or the other? Also, would it work with two players? Each using a joystick. Will the gloves know what player it's for for each game?

I want to be the first one ever to do this.

I was sort of thinking about making a Tron cabinet, using a spinner in the middle of the cabinet also a joystick and one glove. I think the glove (not powerglove) would match it PERFECTLY! I think it would be one cool looking cabinet. If I find a completely trashed tron that I KNOW would be going to the dump I would completely restore it, paint it with some UV paint and make something unique out of it. But people nowadays that hold on to a tron cabinet think they are worth 2k and if I saw a trashed broken into pieces cab they will probably still expect 400 dollars for the damn thing. It's already happened before, I just tell them they are delusional. So I may start from scratch.

But if the tron idea fails I may just create a fix it felix cabinet with the glove.

What do you guys think would be cooler, and I don't mean particularly with glove, the tron cabinet or the new fix it felix that will match Mame as it the movie has many arcade cameos in it.

Sorry I like to brainstorm out loud. What ya guys think. Any opinion is appreciated.
I want to make something that community WANTS to see built. Something unique, never accomplished before.
I have a lot of ideas to make unique cabinets. I am sort of thinking to throw them all onto one unique cabinet but this seems impossible as I want to make a cabinet for each type of game. For example, one driving, one shooter, one 2 player joystick, one spinner cade. Right now I want to do a spinner cade, and like I said I am stuck between Tron and Fix It Felix.

I tend to agree with LeChuck on this one. Unless you have this great game that actually uses the glove in a natural manner, then you're just going to be shoehorning a controller into an situation that will, more than likely, be more trouble than it's worth.

The Star Wars Yoke is a wonderful device- but I wouldn't use it to play Arkanoid.

I took another look at this thing.  I'm not impressed.  Your ideas are fun and I like where your head is at but the glove itself doesn't impress me.  The key to a lot of good gaming is the players ability to do several things at once.  This glove only reacts with itself and not with it's environment.  It's just a keyboard, not a motion sensor or anything like that, in a lot of ways this thing is worse that the power glove.  There's a reason they use dungeon crawlers as the demos.  They are stand and fight games which is what the inventor does.  One thing at a time.   

So to play you're going to have to have a legend on the machine telling the players what odd hand position to form to do what action and also that they're going to have to do different movements with multiple fingers simultaneously go move freely about the board.  It might look really cool and the cab might look neat but I think it won't be fun as more than a curiosity IMO. 

That's not to say you shouldn't build curiosities.  I built a 12" Star Wars, however I don't have to explain to someone how to play it.  They can just start yanking away on the wee yoke while I bite my nails and wish I wasn't letting them touch it.  If your heart is set the build it but I say but and test it first.  It is a simple key mapper, it'll work in MAME, no worries there I'm sure, just know that there are other products out there that do similar things (Makey Makey) without the need to put a glove on.   

As to some of your questions, without looking at the drivers and just off what I saw on the videos I'd say you can hook several up and have them all doing different things.  You map what keys it registers so you can likely have several or until you run out of keys to map.  No reason you couldn't have a joystick and this thing running at once.

Oh, and I don't think that glove is military grade unless it is flame retardant.  As for being a milspec item I've never seen any military application make use of it, not even the landwarrior system and that is about as powerglove/video gamey as you can get... and that little pile of smoldering caca is seeing active use in combat currently [/offtopic]

I would be making a mame and I was trying to come up with something cool looking. Tron cabinet with a tron looking glove just sounded, new, and exciting.
I know the idea doesnt offer a lot new to game play, just a new way to press buttons. Most arcade games have 2 or 1 buttons so the commands will be the same for all games and the learning curve would be small. But the point here is it would LOOK futuristic.

But yeah, I guess it would be pretty gimmicky.

I want to try something new as far as controls, anyone else have any ideas? Things you would like to see done?

If you either put something (i.e. plexi) to protect it or just give it a couple coats of protective finish it should be okay.  Although I don't know what effect that would have on UV ink specifically...

Painting with UV ink should cause it to glow under black light, but I am afraid it wont show up if I cover it up with plexi glass.

That's why you do a test piece or three first to verify how it looks before you do the detail work on actual piece.

Slightly offtopic.

The Power Glove protocol is well known and defined and PC support has been around since year dot. The number of sites that document how this is done are rapidly disappearing with many people opting to hack the PG instead, such as adding Bluetooth.
