Upside Down LCD Monitor Better?
« on: September 23, 2012, 05:21:53 am »
Put a 23" samsung in to my cabinet frame to see how it works, and is great, the height and position really enhance the experience.  However I note that when i crouch a little, the view is really bad.  my kids like to mess around, and need a step, however now they will need a ladder!

Looking from the top it seems better though.

Is this really the case?
is there some way to tell mame + mala + windows that everything is upside down all the time?
is this in any way commonplace?

thanks!

Yes.
Probably - depends on your driver.  MAME should also have a rotate option.
Yes.  Many commercial arcade games actually have them installed upside-down for this reason.

Other option is to pay handsomely and get yourself a high-end IPS panel.  They don't do this for the most part.

I had already looked in display driver, nvidea control panel, tried the ctrl+alt+arrow etc, and nothing works.  so i would have mame the right way up, and windows upside down, which given I would need to do stuff on would be a pain.

I was thinking this community might know of other ways if this was more common than among the common public who rarely need an upside down screen.

glad to hear it does happen, however seems like I will have to upgrade to windows 7 rather than buy an IPS.  everything bar the artwork is going to be recycled materials...

My marquee monitor is mounted upside-down because of the viewing angle. I've had two PCs in that cabinet. The older one had an nvidia card. The newer one is ati. Both ran XP Pro (32bit) and I set the rotation using irotate.exe

you can do it in windows and it will be that way in everything. for windows 7 right click on empty desktop area go to screen resolution. you should see orientation (landscape) change to (Landscape Flipped)

I am using xp, and have no options at all in nvidea except networking.  It is a mini-atx atom, with onboard graphics, so not that surprised.

Will trynirotate.

Thanks!

for xp do this
Click “Start,” then “Control Panel,” then “Display,” then the “Settings” tab. Click the “Advanced” button. Check for an “Orientation” option. Select your desired orientation.

Thanks, this option does not exist on my PC, due perhaps to the limited nature of it being a mini-atx.  i was hoping a small modern quiet PC would do the job, however it appears not :-(

thanks anyway all!
