Anybody else crazy excited for Borderlands 2?
« on: September 11, 2012, 01:15:30 pm »
So I told myself I would never preorder a game that wasn't made by Valve (I am a big proponent of delayed gratification leading to cheaper and thus more games played), but I am about to pull the trigger (hee hee) on a BL2 preorder. My wife and I played through the first one co-op and loved it, and this one looks improved in all respects. Anybody else ready for another Borderlands fix?
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

Oh, I'm ready.  Probably one of the more enjoyable games I've played in a while.

I enjoyed the first game a lot and will probably pick up the 4 pack with some friends.  I hope they improve the weapon drops.  I played through most of BL1 using the same weapon I found in the first half of the game.  Nothing I ever found the entire 2nd half of the game was better which was annoying.

I'm pumped enough that I am fighting the impulse to re-buy the first one and play it again.

Needless to say, my projects will all continue collecting dust well past next Tuesday...

Why would you have to re-buy the first one?

Why would you have to re-buy the first one?

Because I foolishly, foolishly traded it in... the combination of buying the GOTY in a Black Friday deal and Amazon's trade in prices a few months later meant we played all 100-ish hours for free. But now I need my fix... I want to shoot things, and then I want guns to then pop out of those things, and use those to shoot more things...

I'll def pick this one up, but not for a few weeks perhaps.  I played through BL1 only twice, but I agree after you get a decent gun or two about half way through,it got harder and harder to keep going.  Getting legendary equipment, especially early is both a blessing and curse.  I've never played co-op.

I'm so excited for this. It's been 'available' online for a few days now but I'm waiting until my pre-order arrives. Unfortunately for us UK guys, the release date is Friday the 21st but I'm hoping I'll get it a day early.

I'm crazy busy with work at the moment but I'm going to make time for this game  ;D

Definitely enjoying it so far. Kind of disappointed that Amazon has been slow on getting the pre-order bonus codes out, would have liked to have that content in place before I started. Oh well, first world problems and all that.

Is the single player experience worth taking a look at this?  I thought the first one was online only based on all the advertising.

Borderlands 1: Single player is VERY fun.  I only started messing around with the online after playing through it once.  Co-op is fun, too.

I never seen nor played the first one yet.

I have not done a pre-order or even a new game in a long time.

the one that I may pre-order is the colonial marines that game has been pushed back so many times/years it gotta be a good one.

alway's been a fan of the series but the game's were all kinda bland but I have a feeling this one is gonna be done the right way this time around.

yeah he's kinda repetitve in all the series over the years like mario where this one is unique to all the others.

I never cared for the duke games much anyhow there a comical knock-off of other games and just were not great games to begin with.

they were a cheap made fps that was popular when it first came out becuase the fps and tittes were a new thing in gamng at the time but it dont really have anything going for it these day's becuase they were never a great game to begin with.

I still never played nor even seen any of the newer dukes becuase I could care less really.

I never heard anyone talk about them in person ever like you would other games about how cool that part was or this boss stage etc. nothing ever other then it has half naked chicks but other then that nothing really about how good the game was or fun it is etc..

but then again the other/older prior A&P series games were not that great either so it may still be in the same boat but I still think this one is going to be done the right way this time around.

Yeah the source material is great but never really gets used to its full potential... but I bet Gearbox can do it (I am working off the assumption that DNF was a fluke for those developers).

they were a cheap made fps that was popular when it first came out becuase the fps and tittes were a new thing in gamng at the time but it dont really have anything going for it these day's becuase they were never a great game to begin with.

DN3D was HUGE in the day. The number of mods, packs, maps, etc to be downloaded probably rivaled those from the Half-Life community. While a ton of the stuff was sheer and utter crap, not all of the best maps had nudity or any references to sex though the damn "shark in the tub" and toilet jokes abounded.  ??? When DN3D was released, the comical references were reasonably current. People got the jokes. With DNF, the damn game had been in development for so long that even the references were lost. I played the demo on the PS3 and quite frankly... the references were so old it felt like the game was more appropriate for a five year old.

There are several reasons why DN3D was popular. For some, IIRC, DN3D had lower system requirements than Quake did. This was a big plus at the time at LAN parties because not everyone had upgraded to the Pentiums yet. When Quake brought support for OpenGL cards to the table, there were still those who couldn't compete with the early adapters. Gameplay was too one-sided. That was also part of the reason why DOOM hung around for so damn long. Come to think of it, the people who were "amazed" at the pixelated nudity were those who never played DN3D before. Even in 1996, there were far better .gif porn to be had.

FPS pre-date DN3D. It wasn't exactly new, even then. Though I think the ability for a somewhat approximation of a proper Y axis was astonishing, I recall a few discussions about that. For a time, the Build engine was THE engine to use. I have a slew of titles with that crap engine. Redneck Rampage, Witchhaven, Shadow Warrior to name a few. The suck part is that Build never saw any improvements until Silverman released the source code. I didn't really see a lot of Quake based engines I guess until Half-Life came out two years later. By then I guess it didn't matter if I ran Build or Quake engines since I pumped up my PC with twin VoodooII cards.

I think one of the prime reasons why DN3D isn't popular today, even with new engines like eDuke is because the game simply didn't age well. When I play a game with resolutions so high I can pick out individual zits on the NPC's it's damn near impossible to go back to DN3D with the super pixelated titties. It's like driving a brand spanking new Toyota as a regular driver then going back and driving a Model T for nostalgia. It's fun a few hours I guess, but I like the speed and comfort of my daily driver thank you very much.

My wife brought home a late birthday surprise...Borderlands 2! It's the only NEW ($59.99) game I've received this gen (I never spend over $30 usually).

I'm enjoying this game so far, having never played the first. Just renewed Gold for another year, so time to take this online. :)

It hasn't done much for me.

I kept inverting and normalizing the X-axis and neither feels right.  Feel like all I'm doing is running away and shooting.

The wife and I are enjoying it, I just got a shield that when damaged, spawns little pods that then spawn other little pods that explode everywhere. It is fun. I think we are about level 15.

Second playthrough makes everything you've looted almost useless.  I have trouble as a siren (mostly since I'm spec'd for crowd control for times I'm in a group) while my friend playing a soldier drops his nuke turret and kills everything.  Phaselock seems underpowered since it won't let you lock enemies over a certain size making some skills useless like health regen while something is locked.  Still fun but I hate gearbox for only letting gunserkers have ammo regen mods, 1340 being such a weak shield late game, and how eridium caps at 99 when it drops so often you'd think it would have some purpose.  I very much look forward to the fifth class on the 16th.

As far as Duke goes I think the best was the first platformer.  Keep in mind gearbox, as far as I know, just put together what 3drealms finished and shipped it.  Think of it as they just put their name on it for the cred.  I'm concerned colonial marines won't have replay value but I think its the first to get it right that you should never have to play as a xenmorph.  If you take that out of the last AvP game for 360 it would have been tolerable aside from multiplayer.

Yeah I'll be changing things up a lot till I find something I like and having class mods give benefits of skill points somewhat helps.  Regardless it feels like the class is either underpowered or defective when a skill that is maxed out to work 50% of the time doesn't show it (Recompense-enemy takes the damage they gave me).  I think a mod to give +3 to that is in my inventory so at some point I'll try it out and maybe get better results.  The wiki claims getting it to ten grants 100% so I'll be crazy happy if that works.

edit-Still getting destroyed by bosses and I hate rabid stalkers so much.  Not sure how they calculate damage if I have 40% and 15% extra gun damage but it doesnt feel anywhere close to it.  Very lame.

They crank up the difficulty a bit in the second playthrough but if you find the right combination of playstyle and skills it's a lot easier.  Also make sure you're taking advantage of elemental damage if the enemies you're facing are vulnerable to a specific type.

A slight respec and changing my Health Regen mod to a +87% smg damage mod took care of my boss problem.  I probably could have gotten it this time around without doing so since I had plenty of skags in various states of burning to keep me alive but I'll keep things as is to deal with those rabid stalkers and armored skags.  The former are an all around hassle and the latter are double trouble.  I'm enjoying the game more now that I've found a fire smg above 1000 dmg which more than makes up for the disappointment e-tech has been for me.

edit- Mechromancer was released today (download through the main menu) and so far its a nice addition.  If only he would yell antihuman propaganda whenever he killed something would it be perfect.

I finally ran up against a similar wall in playthrough 2 when I got to Bloodwing at level 41.  I just don't have the firepower on my own, and if I use my turret it kills all the skags and I have nothing to save me if I go into second wind.

On the bright side, every single item I picked up in the preserve was above my level, so if I get another level or 2 I'll have some much better gear.

Thats the issue I had and for some reason it seemed like hiding in the door recesses that the skags come out of protected me from some of her attacks.  Also head/face shots would cancel her claw attack which helped but it was only working every other time or so.  Maybe try placing the turret towards the curved part of the arena so it has a harder time hitting the little guys or just ignores them for the target closer to itself.  Not sure what relic you use but if you have the loot drop one swap it for a damage boost and when she is weak enough swap back.

After downloading the new class I now have to download an update to be able to play with anyone else.  Thanks for wasting my time Gearbox when you could have made the class have the update.  The bright side is the humorous Microsoft point cost of the update for most people.  Almost as funny as the time I was auto updated during a MW3 match preventing me from playing with my friends for two days.

Apparently you can get some good elemental smgs from moxxi if you tip her around 50,000 (don't quote me on that).

I forget what relic I was using.  I switched the loot relic for something more useful but can't remember what.  I'll have to try grabbing a little cover.  I tend to run around a lot to avoid the skags but I doubt that does me any good.  They don't hurt me much, they're just a nuisance.

Moxxi is awesome for SMGs.  I've only been able to get the corrosive bad touch once, but I go back for a new flaming good touch every 2 levels or so.  You can get it a lot cheaper by tipping 100's instead of 1000's, unless they've fixed that in the last patch.  Girlfriends/wives also like the good touch.  You'll see what I mean when you use it.

The wife and I are at the Fridge area right now. I was disappointed to learn that ammo regen perks don't work on rocket launchers... I was hoping for a dual rocket gunzerker. Still having a blast, I could see us going through again with Mecromancer/Commando eventually.

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

I caved and bought this earlier than intended because I bought Max Payne 3 a couple of weeks ago and got so ticked off I stopped playing it after just a few hours.  I needed a fix and BL blended the grind with addiction so well that I actually paid full price for this sequel.  First time I've ponied up that much cash for a game in ... well as long as I can remember.  Thankfully when I look at the total cost per hour in terms of what I'll get out of it the price is easily justified.  I'd rather play for 50 hours than pay for seven matinee movie tickets at the same price.
Anyway, this is the PC version and I've only played through the first teeny bit.  I'm glad the weekend is here.  Once I get up to speed I might look for some online play.  I never did that with the first one.

Alright, it has been a few months- who is still playing. The wife and I are in our 2nd play-through- kind of. We got hit by the game-breaking/freezing glitch that is going around... can't play for more than 20 minutes without the game completely locking up my console. Blah! Just bought the season pass, too! Were going to start it up one we hit level 50 (at 43 now).

We've enjoyed it so far, but these bugs (also fell victim to the badass rank reset glitch) are seriously dampening my BL fanboyism.

It's 50% off on Steam.  Is it worth it or should I wait for the 75% off after Christmas?

I lost some interest in the game after I finished my first playthrough with the mancer and then Halo 4 came out so its on the backburner.  I'm annoyed with some updates though specifically changing the vault hunter (who gives you weapons) appearance rate to 0 and nerfing The Bee (amp shot shield) which may or may not affect the 360 version.  Just like to also point out that the abbreviation used for Borderlands may be interpreted incorrectly.

I'd wait till a better sale.  It's not a bad game but if you can hold out a bit take advantage of the cheaper potential price.

I'm still loving it.  I think I'm around level 24 give or take a couple - I don't really notice to be honest.  I'll probably log 100 hours on this, having already put in about 60.  So for the price, even full price it's better than spending the equivalent on any other form of entertainment I can think of.  I don't buy more than three or four games in a year though, so games don't really compete for budget money
Getting it for half price is a great deal.  On the other hand once the steam holiday sales goes live you may be able to pick it up for ten bucks.
