Hyperspin back/exit
« on: August 13, 2012, 02:20:04 pm »
Hey guys,

I need some help with a hyperspin exit button. I have a 2 player-8 button control panel each. 6 controller buttons, 1 coin button and 1 start button. How do I set the buttons to exit an emulator to go back to hyperspin and then exit hyperspin. I tried the settings in hyper launch to get key 1 and key 2 together to exit, but to no avail. By the way, my CPO is seen as a joystick.

Turn Hyperlaunch off for mame (its under HyperHQ somewhere) and set the exit key within Mame itself. You will need to run Mame outside of hyperspin and go into configure general inputs. (I think its UI-Cancel under general options, To be honest I have to do the same thing).  You can change the settings in hyperspin for exiting hyperspin itself.  I have mine set to P1 & P2 Coin to exit and that works fine in hyperspin.

Hope that helps a bit,

hmmm still confused.. Originally I was using Joy2key with what is now the player 2 coin button set to escape in order to exit out of emulators and go back in hyperspin. Since MAME however needs a 1 and 2 player coin button I can not do this. How can I escape from emulators and go back and exit in hyperspin?

Thing is I don't think you can do two button exit when your CPO is read as a joypad?

I just tested it and it works fine.  Don't bother with Joytokey, Turn off hyperlaunch.  Run mame from outside of hyperspin.  Look for the cancel UI option, press enter on it Then press Both Keys at the same time. In my case its J0 Button 7 & J1 Button 7.  Then go back to previous menu, back to previous again and then exit mame.   Within Hyperspin set a different combination to exit, In my case I have P1 Button 7 and P1 Button 8 to exit back in hyperspin.   Working like a charm here.

As another question is your machine set up with single player or dual player?  Mine is setup for Dual player and I am using individual buttons for P1/P2 and Coin1/Coin2

It is a 2 player control panel. I have individual buttons for P1 start and P1 coin and P2 start and P2 coin. I just cant figure out how to exit with two buttons.

The method you are telling me does not work when you have a CPO inputted as a gamepad...

It must be something strange with your setup.  I just tested it again to make sure that pressing the buttons individually would not close mame.  They didn't,   I have a xin-mo controller so mine is seen as HID Joystick device.

Pressing both Player 1 & Player 2 coin buttons at the same time exits mame for me. (If I remember correctly I am running 0.137 on my bartop but may have upgraded to 142)

What exactly does your system see the joysticks as? - What device are you using for the encoder?

Do you want me to post pictures/video of everything for you to show it working on mine?

Hang on a moment, I may have been feeding you bad info. I've been asuming that you meant exiting from within Mame back to hyperspin. If you mean within Hyperspin itself as in selecting wheel and then going back to main wheel then NO for some reason 2 Joystick buttons together are not working.  Damn, That means I am going to have to add another button for exiting hyperspin.  Well that's no good.  Time to go bug some Hyperspin dev's,  If I get a solution from anyone I will let you know.  :banghead: :banghead:

Seemingly you can use Xpadder for this, I will test it and update the thread accordingly.

OK firstly you want a copy of xpadder 5.3 which was the last of the freeware versions of xpadder.  You should be able to find it at download.hr

Run xpadder and create a joystick setup which I imagine will be much like mine, 1 joystick and 8 buttons. I only set mine up for the player 1 side, not much point in setting up on both.  Save the Joystick setup and it will automatically load that when it detects the controller. (Which should be always as unless its a fight stick its not going to be removed).

You then right hand click on whichever button you have assigned as your P1 coin button (in my instance Button8) you need to change the option for set selector to Selects set 2 and choose the option for when held (you will get a little blue bar at the bottom of the button that says 2 with an arrow next to it), If you press the arcade button selected then you will see it changes to a 1 and that the selected set in bottom right will change to 2.
Choose set 2 (bottom right) and click on whichever button you have assigned as your P1 start button (in my instance Button7) and set this to esc.

You should now find that when holding down P1 credit and then Pressing P1 start sends an esc command to exit Menu/Hyperspin.

I can confirm in my testing with Mame that the credit button works as normal and it still works for exit with both credit buttons pressed together. Please note I have only tested that this works with Mame, I have not tested with any other emulators. I am unsure if it will work in conjunction with other emulators, but any emulator that uses Joystick commands should be fine.

In a way I'm thankful that you made me check whether I was crazy or not, At least I know now that I don't have to put another button on my machine for exiting Hyperspin.  You are right about 2 joystick buttons at the same time with AHK though, not sure why that is, Luckily as its only being used for exiting a front end any lag shouldn't be an issue.

I think they should remove the options for using more then 1 key for exit in the joystick function of hyperhq
