The background image needs to have the correct filename/path for it to work in MAMEWAH itself.

Read the Layouts.txt file in your \Layouts folder, it should explain all :)

Hmmm not clear enough for me though  :)

I have a folder called D:\MAMEWAH\LAYOUTS\cab640x400 with the following files:

layout.lay
layout-main.jpeg

in the mamewah cfg i have these lines under ;misc
Layout Name = D:\MAMEWAH\LAYOUTS\cab640x400

Where should i put these setting in the layout.cfg  ???

I have a folder called D:\MAMEWAH\LAYOUTS\cab640*400 with the following files:

Interesting...
Windows doesn't allow you to have folders with "*" in them...
You may want to double check that...
I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

Who wasn't paying attention to the last revision, lol  :D

I changed the system slightly with v0.96...I did include a revised Layouts.txt with the download, but here's the crucial part:

Backgound Images:

emu?-main.???      emulator specific main backgound image
main.???      general layout main backgound image

emu?-options.???   emulator specific options menu backgound image
options.???      general layout options menu backgound image

emu?-message.???   emulator specific message box backgound image
message.???      general layout message box backgound image

(if none of the above exist, no background image will be used)

Coffein:  All you need do is remove the 'layout-' before the 'main.jpeg'.  Actually, you may have to change to .jpg rather than .jpeg - this should work too but I can't remember atm how I did it  :-[

I am new to MameWAH and having similar troubles.

I have downloaded a number of the pre-made custom layouts and none of them work at all.

Not working = No background images or artwork displaying.

Do I have to go and rename every custom file if I want to use it?

The layout editor loads the files fine, but mamewah does not.

Other than the fact it does not work, this looks like a promising front end...

 :-X :-X :-X :-X

Of course, now it does not work at all. Cannot change the layout at all no matter what name I make the dir.

MameWAH = Waste of time.

Wow, 2 posts and you're already ripping MameWAH?  MameWAH is about the best front end out there right now, and if you haven't noticed, MinWah spends a great deal of time here trying to help folks the best he can.

So RTFM, and then come back and ask some smart questions.....

You obviously did something wrong.  The fact that you can't change layout means that you haven't entered a valid layout.

Read Layouts.txt from whichever version download you are using, it explains all.  Alternatively, use MAME32, you might find it less of a 'waste of time' :P
