rca d27f750t hdtv crt - discharge necessary?
« on: July 11, 2012, 12:24:30 pm »
hey guys,

i have successfully decased my new crt to put into my machine.  i  have everything unplugged from the chasis except for the suction cup bit.  i'm wondering, this being a newer set (2006 i believe), does it discharge automatically or do i need to do it?  it will be my first monitor discharge.  i have read countless "how to's".  i am obviously a bit concerned but believe that i could do it, if necassary.

any thoughts?

The how to docs overstate the danger a bit to drive home the point of being sure to do it and do it right. If you aren't going to take the suction cup off then you don't need to discharge. If you are then you should discharge it. It is not hard, and it isn't dangerous provided you take the minimum of precautions. 99 times out of 100 the tube won't have any appreciable charge it in to begin with. You are discharging in order to be safe for that 100th time in which it is holding a charge.

I have probably done it around 200 times. It is not that big of a deal.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
