Dumb question. But is this possible at all?
« on: May 26, 2012, 10:12:47 pm »
Hello guys,

I have a very dumb question that will many will probably laugh at. But is it possible for me to some how turn my usb Saturn pad into a wireless one using my old PS3 Sixaxis pcb somehow?

Should just be a matter of a simple padhack.  Just solder up each button and microswitch to the corresponding button on the sixaxis and you should be good to go.

Thanks for the reply! I thought about doing that but I don't think it's possible to solder to the sixaxis pcb :(

its possible..just use "wrapping wire" from radio shack. its the thinest wire you can get for this kind of work.

Thanks I'll have to check that out. I'm not sure how I can go about doing this though. I basically want to make my Saturn pad wireless somehow using my old Sixaxis pcb.

What system are you planning on using the wireless device on? (And does it have the analog joystick or is it just the control pad with 6 buttons (Much like the sega Megadrive pad).   If It is the PC (Which I presume it to be) then you should be able to hack some kind of wireless pads PCB into the existing,  If it is for the saturn then you are going to be :---steaming pile of meadow muffin---: outta luck  There are plenty of wireless gamepads, the hardest bit would be making the pcb from another device fit neatly.

I think the question should be, does anyone know of a wireless gamepad with easy to solder points. (Those sixaxis ones look incredibly small to me).

Yeah, I have plenty of Saturn pads laying around and wanted to somehow make one wireless and besides two 3rd party wireless Gamecube pads I only have my old Sixaxis and I know from what I've read those are a nightmare to solder to. But yeah the Saturn pads as I'm sure you know is very similar to the 6 button Genesis/Megadrive pad. I'll be using it on my PC. I have a usb Saturn pad I bought and took the PCB out and put it in one of my "real" Saturn pads and love it!

One thing I was thinking of is buying one of those retrousb Genesis adapters to use an actual Genesis pad and hunt down one of those rare wireless RF Genesis pads. I've read even though they are RF they work extremely well. Anyway sorry for the long reply mate. I appreciate you trying to help!

so the goal here is to get a saturn controller to go wireless and also to work on a pc is that correct?

if that is the case the ps3 controllers are the last thing I would suggest or be looking at.

let me know if that is the plan and I will see if I can come up with any idear's.

Instead of a six axis try using a Logitech ps3 pad. It's natively pc compatible, unlike the six axis and it much cheaper, but still good quality.

Yeah, I have something similar to this http://www.amazon.com/Retro-SEGA-Saturn-Classic-Controller-Pc/dp/B002LHS70K

I basically took the pcb out of it and put it in one of my original black Saturn pads and it worked perfectly! Basically I'm trying to look for a way to make the controller wireless.

@WhereEaglesDare hmm I'll have to keep that in mind. I do have some wireless pads including my PS3 and wireless 360 controlelrs I use on the PC. I'm just looking to use my Saturn pad for Genesis emus etc.. everything else I use my 360 pad for.

I've seen these http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Genesis-Wireless-Remote-Arcade-System-Controller-Original-BRAND-NEW-Rare-/350544464919?pt=Video_Games_Accessories&hash=item519e140c17#ht_2317wt_1165 floating around every now and then and I've heard good things about them despite them being RF. I thought about buying one of these and then using a Genesis to USB adapter if that would work? I've also seen Wireless RF Saturn pads like these http://thesaturnjunkyard.blogspot.com/2008/08/sega-saturn-ir-pads.html
