Wall Mount Jukbbox
« on: April 30, 2012, 08:56:07 am »
Greetings all! I have been lurking for a few months now and decided to take on a little project. This came about when talking with, The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Mountain, I am a co-worker, and seeing his Jukeboxes he makes. So I set out to make something semi compact, use internal speakers or a stereo system, and could be mounted to a wall. So I came up with a design and sat down with Mountain to discuss some of the fine detail of how to get this started.
I gathered all the necessary pieces and parts to get going. Talked with Mountain again and asked about maybe using his CNC to help out with this project. A piece of 5/8" MDF and a 12 pack of beer and this is where the project is at.

Sorry I don't have a name for it yet.  :(

Now on with the pics!

Here is a drawing of the jukebox. The volume pot has been moved since this drawring.

The Machine!!!

First Cuts - Speaker holes.

Yes I know it looks like Mickey Mouse!  ;D

Cutting the outline

Finished outline and speaker holes

Starting on the back plate.

Outline of the back plate. The groove is for easy assembly.

Finished back plate

Time to cut the hole for the touch screen!!!

Touch screen hole cut and beveled.

Touch screen and speaker grill pocket cut out on the back side.

We'll be back after a word from our sponsor!

Well it looks like you got the right friend , the right tools and some CnC skills ...

But unless you go wireless (in wall) and you have a place for your sub woofer ... you wont really be happy ;-) ...

(yes i know you can see 1 wire , still a work inprogress )

Good luck with your build , I will be watching this post closely ...

Jason

Jason, why such a negative comment on this guys 1st project thread?

He knows what he wants, he knows what he needs. He is putting an I/O panel on this thing so he can wire it to his home stereo system. He has years of experience wiring automated smart homes and entertainment systems professionally, I think he will be fine.

Some info not posted yet is that the sub is to be mounted in a tuned enclosure behind the front baffle as well as the mid range. This thing is compact and will pack a great punch as a stand alone unit. It's only 23.5" x 20" x 5". Of course with the outputs used, the sky is the limit as far as sound quality goes.

I get insanely jealous of you guys with access to CNCs.

Looks like a cool project, looking forward to seeing it progress!   :applaud:

Man That is a cool first project, and you are definitely correct about Mountain being THE MAN!
Several on here, myself included, have copied his famous bar top juke box design.

And I definitely got very jealous when he got himself a CNC.

Good luck with your project and welcome to the forum!

Thanks guys for the comments!! I will hopefully have it put together by Friday but we will see!  :)

Jason thanks for the upgrade options ideas but as Mountain stated I will be putting an I/O plate on it so I can attach it to a bigger system if need to be. I wanted and small compact wall mount juke with built in speakers that was for close quarters, so the sound quality will be there but not the volume. Then with the I/O on it it could be plugged in to a larger system for more volume in a bigger area.
This thing is small enough to be moved around with no problem. I am even thinking about making a stand for it but we will see about that.

Again thanks to all that have posted so far. I have a feeling that my next project will be a full sized mame, not sure yet though! :)

What will you be using for a screen.  I am just starting to look into the jukebox builds now.  What are the preferred touchscreens for these?  Elo's?  Are there any other brands that work well?

I am going to be using a ELO 1547, i do believe, on this one. I am not sure about anything else, i was told this was a great touch screen to use. It also depends on what style of jukebox you are building as well.

I totally second that. I hate all you guys with access to a CNC machine for your projects ;)
