Need a beginner's walkthrough

So I have my computer set up with a ATI Radeon X800 based card which can go component out to my Sony Trinitron TV.

First question: Is there a benefit to using GroovyMAME over the stock build?

Second: Assuming yes, what do I do?
I'm thinking this...
1. Install the crt_emudriver_6.5_1.2 to replace the stock ATI drivers.
2. Install groovymame32_0143.013b.exe and use -cc to generate a clean mame.ini.
3. I know nothing about modelines, switchres, etc. so no idea what's next.

Hi DrChek. Modelines are intended for RGB outputs only, I don't know if it'll be supported through the component out but I'd bet it's not. If that is the case, the benefit to GroovyMAME would be limited to its improved video/audio synchronization options.

Yes that's fine, just check inside http://mario.groovy.org/GroovyMame/WindowsATIDrivers/ as there are more up-to-date builds.

Then, you'd probably need to figure out your monitor specs, but let's make sure you're component out is valid for modelines before we go on.

I've never heard about someone using component out with custom video modes... Is it even possible? But I don't see much sence in this. You would be better doing the true RGB if you are serious about retro gaming. That's what real coin op machines have always used (well perhaps apart form very early ones like Computer Space?).

I'd be the most suprised one if component output supports modelines. I believe the videocard will recook the video mode completely.

How do I do that?

I'd install the driver just as usual and go testing individual video modes through Arcade_OSD to see if they're different at all from each other.

Edit: I got my games working. I had a bad sound driver which was somehow preventing resolution switch.

Need an update to this thread. I have the same questions as the op and I am sure I have Rgb to the tv via a tc1600 transcoder. But groovymame is 1. Looking the same as regular mame and 2. Not switching resolutions but opening games in windows instead. I have crt_emu installed and working.

What I did was:

1. Install a Radeon hd4980 in win xp
2. Install crt_emu
3. Downloaded groovymame 1.49 and put in a folder
4. Generated mame.ini with -cc
5. Games run in windows and I don't know how to tell groovymame to switch res and use full screen.  Switchres is set to 1

I can't find any documentation or walkthrough for how to set up and use groovymame properly with crt emu.
