Moving through emulators with joystick
« on: February 25, 2012, 12:42:36 pm »
Hey guys ,

I cant seem to find a good way to scroll through the emulators..I did see the fields in the options menu but I guess maybe there is a default tree making those keys not respond?

I just have a gamelist for Mame,Snes,NEs and Gens.  I can right click mala and switch to a new emulator manually but its not very arcade cab friendly.

Any thoughts ? Wondering if I have to setup a tree, I just wanted to keep it simple with 4 gamelists to cycle through.

Thanks so much in advance

Take a hard look at your controller tab. If any button for "next" or "previous" emulator is blue, it means it will need a two key/button press in order to advance to the next emulator. The blue modifier is your assigned "shift" key. Although it might not be your actual shift key on a keyboard.

I have a similar situation. I have (or will have) about 6 or so emulators in MALA controlled by a joystick (X-Arcade Tankstick). I have "next emulator" set to joystick left (1st player) PLUS a button key. Works perfectly. Without the "shift" key/button used MALA just rotates gamelist within the SAME emulator. With the shift key it rotates to the next emulator altogether.

If your MALA tree is set up it will NOT ALLOW those key strokes to work. I would just suggest you map your joystick buttons/keys to what you want in the contoller tab and be aware of any double key requirements. If you don't like double key requirements, make them single key/button (non-blue).

Anyway, I hope I answered your question(s).

My situation is similar.... but different. I need to switch between MALA for PG rated original arcade action and hyperspin for "all things possible" emulation. I mapped the "p" (shift, stick down) to get MALA's emulator selection screen. When I escape hyper spin, I have to repeat the process to go back to MAME.

What are you using a joystick or keyboard?
