Don't they have devices for the HI, like Braille encoders and special displays?

Common misconception. The hearing impaired (HI) do not read Braille because they aren't BLIND!1!1!!

and yes they do have special displays, they suck ass. Try watching a movie and reading a newspaper at the same time. On screen captions are the solution. No need to reinvent the wheel here.

I would be 100% ok with captions becoming the standard, there are plenty of folks with various levels of hearing ability. Heck, I have been to enough theaters where the center channel was undermixed or downright broken that it makes sense anyway.
Completed projects: Pac bartop (Plug & Play), 30th Anniversary Pac cab (MAME), Point Blank (PS1), Centipede (arcade hardware- light restore), VS. Super Mario Bros (arcade hardware- light restore) Tetris Cocktail (SNES), Arcade Classics upright (60-in-1, then MAME), Multi-Raiden (arcade hardware). Pac Man vs.(Gamecube),

Working on: Pinball Re-theme, Homebrew arcade arena shooter

By becoming standard do you mean that every film would have captions, visible to everyone? I'm not sure I would be 100% okay with that. I mean, maybe greater than 50% okay, seeing as it would be nice for the hearing impaired, but I do find it a bit distracting. I sometimes enable captions in videogames when I find myself missing some of the dialogue. But invariably I turn it back off because I find myself reading the subtitles instead of paying full attention to the voices and I end up missing a lot of the humor and drama that only comes through in the voice inflections.

Seems like they could embed captions in the video and then have it only display if you were wearing special glasses.

:stupid Was thinking that might be a possibility as well.

I personally don't mind captions though. Back when the wife didn't speak perfect English, we would always watch everything with english subtitles on. They actually grew on me and I would find myself flipping the subtitles on even when watching alone.

TV closed captioning is just downright funny though, at least on live stuff. I love to watch what pops up on the screen.  :lol

Avengers. Kicks. Ass.

<Insert long ghey texting acronym here> that movie was the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  Hulk stole the damn show, up and ran away with it.  Fantastic^3.  Subs were awesome too.

Those Google Project Glass augmented reality glasses! What a great idea. I ought to patent it. You don't need anything special embedded into the video. Just download the official subs to your augmented reality glasses and it'll overlay the appropriate text over the video.

Sub display needs to be synched very closely to dialog. HI can tell by lip and camera mvmnts if the subs are off by more than 100 ms. Fix the synching issue with a thirdparty device and get the studios to release the sub file before or day of film release and you're in business.

Syncing shouldn't be hard for an augmented reality device since it wouldn't need to constantly sync, but rather sync initially and then run at a fixed rate. The device could check every minute or something to make sure it wasn't drifting, but for the most part it would stay on.

Okay, fair enough.  Does it explain why a thunder god needs a bunch of human helpers?  Is it just a Matrix 2 thing where he's bored and likes to fight for no reason?

A little late to the party, but the angle here is that the Asgardians as seen here aren't truly gods and aren't exactly as they're depicted in Norse mythology.  The whole "magic is just science that we don't understand" thing is thrown around, and they are essentially very powerful aliens who like to throw the word "god" around.

The movie was awesome.  Nuff said.  The wait for Avengers 2 will be long.  The only thing I thought was a bit over the top was the flying aircraft carrier but hey....its a comic book movie.  Oh and the other thing was at the end when Iron Man is falling from the sky Thor is just looking at him falling and comments on it but doesnt actually fly up to save him?  That seemed kinda weird.

Yea the flying heli-carrier is straight out of the comics. Comic movies aren't supposed to be realistic.

The flying SHEILD ship was one of my favorite things in the movie.  I really didn't expect them to have it in the movie since it is so over the top.

The only one who really threw the word around is Loki, I don't think Thor, Odin or any of the others ever called themselves a "god".
I think it was a good idea how they did that since it would have been easier to just say they are "gods" and that is how they do the whole magic thing. Science makes it more "realistic".

We watched The Incredible Hulk (Norton version) last night.  My kids hadn't seen it and I had not seen it in several years.  It was much better than I remembered.  There are a few weak points but overall it is a good movie.  Much, much better than the first one.  We rented the BluRay version and the images of Brazil are simply stunning in HD.

My daughter though thought it was "okay".  She grumbled on her way out of the room that "Captain America" is still her favorite.   ;D

Edit - I'm always getting my Edward's mixed up.

You that was in the comic books, right?

I never read comic books so no I had no idea that was in there.  I liked the characters growing up but the comic book reading format was just not my thing.  I got all my background from cartoons.

Who was the villain teased at the end, after the first set of credits? A lot of people say it was Thanos, but he appears to be blue and the guy in the movie looked red. He actually looked a lot like Hellboy, but that's obviously not the case.

Thanos is Blue/Purple depending on what comic/artist is drawing him.  He also wasn't red in the end of the movie but there was a slight tint of red on his Skin.

Here is something I sent my wife after she asked about the teaser at the end.  I'm not that familiar with the subject, so the following is gleaned from Wikipedia and simplified from other sources:

Thanos was born on Titan, a moon of Saturn.  During his childhood, he becomes fascinated with nihilism and death, eventually falling in love with its embodiment, Mistress Death. As an adult, Thanos uses bionics and mysticism to become the most powerful of the Titans, and is often referred to as the Mad Titan.  Wishing to impress Mistress Death, Thanos gathers an army of villainous aliens and begins a nuclear bombardment of Titan that kills millions of his race.  He then travels to Earth in search of the Cosmic Cube.

Thanos makes a brief appearance during the credits in the 2012 film The Avengers. He is revealed to have been Loki's benefactor, having provided the Chitauri army utilized by Loki in his attempted invasion of Earth. When advised by his intermediary (known simply as the "Other") that opposing the Avengers would be to "court death," Thanos glances at the camera and flashes an evil grin.

Death is an abstract entity, the embodiment of the end of life in the Marvel Universe, and the opposite of Eternity, the embodiment of the universe.  As a cosmic concept, Death possesses the power to achieve virtually any effect. Being an abstract entity, Death has no physical body, but usually appears in a female humanoid form, sometimes with a beautiful face or alternately with a bare skull, so it can be perceived by lesser beings.

Death is briefly implied in the 2012 movie, the Avengers. When Thanos's servant tells him that to challenge the Avengers is to court Death, Thanos smiles, implying that's what he intends.

Rando's Opinion: So Thanos is your typical movie bad guy, looking to cause lots of destruction and enslave humanity, etc.  But in the comics at least, he’s doing this to win the favor of a “girl”, Death.  Will Death itself be introduced as a character?  Would she simply be an observer, or be more involved?  No clue, but neat, maybe.
Rando - My build thread: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=107741.msg1142843#msg1142843 (work slowed but still progressing!

Saw this Sunday.  I liked it.  I haven't liked a lot of the Marvel movies but this one was pretty good.  The only real issue I had with it was that it felt just like Independence Day once the aliens came in.  I've had enough of aliens invading "New York City" and shooting green lasers all over the place.

Other than that I thought it was pretty good.  Got to see it in 2D, too, which is getting harder with each passing year.

In the Avengers they used blue lasers.

By far the worst moment in the film was when Loki awoke from the thrashing Hulk had given him to find that the Avengers, yes, even Hulk, had arranged themselves into a ---smurfing--- family portrait for his benefit, lol. So cheesy.

So I ask again what the whole Captain America thing is about?

6 pages later I finally saw it.  I’d love to know what the comic nerds had to say, but I don’t have the time or patience to read through it.

Great movie.

I didn’t like Green Arrow, but the other characters were AWSOME.

I didn’t like Green Arrow.

That's just wrong.  :banghead:
Hawkeye was one of the best Avengers, minus the cool powers the others had.

So I ask again what the whole Captain America thing is about?

It starts here -

Lol, thank you.

Okay, read the hate. Whats the problem with Captain America? Actually it is my favorite of the movies next to The Avengers.
I thought the casting was great, whats the problem with that?
From the people who did Stark to Red Skull to Peggy Carter to the character Tommy Lee Jones did to Dr. Zola to Dr. Erskine, they all did great!!!

Does the hate come from the fact that he is a "patriotic American"?  ;)  :laugh2:  ;)

Not at all. I think Captain Planet is just as lame. And I assure you, there's no planet I love more than Earth. That's actually not strictly true. The fact that he's a walking advertisement is largely what makes him so retarded. I don't care how patriotic he is! Just like I don't care at all whether a superhero loves Coco-Cola. But a Captain Coco-Cola superhero would be equally idiotic. And a byproduct of his stupid branding is that he wears the dorkiest costume imaginable (something that was hilariously not lost on Tony Stark in the new film).

Also his movie was one of the worst films of 2011.
