Bah,
Post submitted above before I actually wrote anything. Actual post below:
Okay, fair enough. Does it explain why a thunder god needs a bunch of human helpers? Is it just a Matrix 2 thing where he's bored and likes to fight for no reason?
Not sure if you asking based on seeing the movie, or not seeing the movie. But in a nutshell,
Thor’s brother is involved, so there is a good and a bad God that would effectively cancel each other out. The bad guys coming in would eventually overwhelm Thor (I imagine) and even if not, the issue is that they are causing a heck of a lot of destruction, and while he can slow the tide, he is unable to stop it, which will cause a lot of damage to the Earth, which thanks to a sexy Natalie Portman, is under Thor’s protection for the most part, and he also feels guilty about the damage he caused previously. Not your usual God caring stuff, but Thor seems to have a soft spot for humans/Earth.
For myself,
Saw it is weekend in 3-D at a Dine-in theater with the wife, reserved comfortable seating, food & beer, can't beat it. We loved it, though she equated it to porn as she got to watch Cap and Thor together, not sure how to take that. Great movie, weak in some spots (I didn't see Transformers 3 so have no comments there, but
the army itself was kinda wimpy, but worked ), but the characters came off great (I expected to be cold towards Black Widow but
she had a couple really great moments where she did her espionage thing that I liked ), each character had a "moment" or two, but the Hulk
did steal the show , I thought Ruffalo was good throughout, though I haven't yet seen Norton's Hulk so can’t comment there. This was probably the best of the Marvel films leading up to it in my opinion, there were several spots where I laughed out loud (LOUD per my wife) and probably the most impressive thing is that they actually did it. In concept, this is a great idea, it execution, this could have gone so badly with all the lead-in movies and required cast, but they pulled it off. Kudos to Joss and the actors. There is a scene towards the end where
all the Avengers are in picture and ready for battle and I thought “Wow, they did it, they actually made this happen!” FYI to those who like to sit for the credits, TWO extra scenes. First mentioned above, there is a second,
funny , addition.
I’d see it again, will own on DVD. Woot!
