Barber Shop Cabinet
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:11:45 am »
Im building a cabinet for a barber shop and I'm having trouble coming up with an art theme. If you guys could post some design ideas that would be great. I'm not planning on stealing any designs unless they are being offered. I just need a place to start. I'm mostly concerned with marquee and CP.

Thanks guys,
Josh

Dude, pick a hair metal band and theme off that.

Europe:  Final Countdown - best hair EVAR

Final Countdown is a bad ass name for a cab too.  It could be kinda tongue and cheek like have them all haired up on side of the cab and photoshop them down to bald heads on the other.

Mötley Crüe is another good group of hairy ---daisies---.  You could get all esoteric and call it the Nikki Sixx Experiment.

Journey had sweet hair AND they had their own cab - double whammy tie-in... not hair metal though so meh.

Probably not too keen on a Sweeney Todd theme I'm guessing?

Yeah, it's pretty bad ass  ;D

Know what else is bad ass? That smiley is the hyperlink to the cab.

The cab art is some of my favorite of all time.  Especially the CP and bezel, really great.  When I finally do a dedicated vert it'll be a journey.  The game is so-so in my opinion but that cab... she's a beaut!

Le Chuck, that is an awesome name for a cab.

Elk, he's my brother.

The guy who I'm building it for told me he wants read, white, and blue buttons. He wants a Street Fighter layout. I was thinking of a barber pole horizontal for the CP. But I don't want to just repeat that for the marquee. His place is called "The Chop Shop". I was going to find some Golden Axe type fantasy art, with a guy in a chopping motion using an axe. But I thought that might be too metal. He's also a hip hop artist.

Elk, I don't really have any links but he are some photos.

"Barbershop Quartet" combines both his jobs, can be within the color scheme, and has an almost arcade element to it as well.  Then have him remix some of that old stuff for background music.  The artwork itself could be taken in any direction.

The Robotron is a mini MAME. It's next to a tiny chair for kids that we got at Ikea. It was originally a table top machine, but I didn't like the way it worked. So I built a box for it to sit on. I was playing, "Robot Ron" as my wife calls it, using the buttons in a cross pattern. It worked surprisingly well.

I laughed pretty hard when I read this one.  I hadn't even noticed that yet.

Robot Ron huh?  When you've been playing too long does it become Robot Ronald?  Seems all the womens in my universe slip into long form names to announce their displeasure.  I have to go... seems like I've been on the I-Paddington too long  ::)
