Good day all.  I have a PGA with Challenge III version 2.2.0.0 on it (I have 2.2.2.0 disks but they appear to be bad).  I can get the game installed and running with the 2.2.0.0 version. Couple of problems though:

Is there any way to set it to $.25 a credit? 1 Credit a game?

And the BIG one, how can I change out the video driver so I can use a later version Nvidia card?  The card in the machine is dying (corrupt screen blocks).  What I tried:
Used the recovery disk to format the machine
Copied the NVidia 93.71_Forceware driver onto the machine (but didn't install it)
Rebooted and finished the 2.2.0.0 install to the point the machine came up to game mode.
Turned it off and swapped video cards (I had hoped XP would detect the new card and ask for a video driver, but it didn't).
Game starts to boot but ends up at a black screen.
I am trying to install a BFG Tech GeForce FX 5700.

Open to any suggestions on how to get around this issue (different software versions, different process to get the driver onboard, etc).  Thanks.
David

hi

DavidShoemaker

i went through this in great detail
your problem is >hercule's<
it is called to look for a specific set of :nivida-driver's:
u have to rember we are running on a very short window's set of driver's
winxp>>e<<
now with that a page back or even this page i posted a way to do the edit and the how, just loading them into window's mean's jack..unless u repoint :hercule's:

start read here >>

A simple walk through for gobal vr pga golf

hi
there is so much to list, that i will try to answer alot of question's here
i am going to try to keep this simpile
first i need to asume u have a gobal-vr pga golf >rev< dose not really matter here
from there we will go to common thing's

a=u can remove the dial-up modem and toss it
b=u can turn the internal lan on,to do this u will do a few edit's
in a program called hercule's,it is the main base program for your machine
to do this remove your harddrive from the pga
slave it,and place it as a slave in any spare computer u have laying around
it should be seen in window's as :d:
using window's explorer,explore the drive,u will find hercule's
in hercule's u will find modem >contexit<,u will find video >nivida< u will find >dongle call<
the conexit is the modem call, remove it, will kill modem call
the nivida is your video card call this we edit
the dongle call is your dongle >key-call< this if u need remove it
now we move to the system file's
they are under d:\window's
where d:is your pga drive
now what we are going to do is a few jump's
first we are going to find the driver's for our new video card
and load them olny to window's system and system32
next we are going to find the nessary driver's for our onboard lan
and repeat the upper step of adding them to window's system and system32
please make sure u add to both of the .dir's
next we are going back to hercule's
and we are going to add in the name of the new video card
in place of the nivida call
so we remove the name nivida and place in the new name
then we will add a cmd to turn on the lan
on most it is remed out
if not simply tell hercule's to look for onboard lan
ie >lookforonboardlan<
the full walk around will be on the bot soon

hi

stpcore

i did post an edit on this

from the rescue disk
after u >copy< it
delete this file

c:\pga\hercules\gvrdongle.exe

so in short u have copyed the rescue disk
to a .dir u made on your harddrive.
i will asume u olny have 1 harddrive =c
but if u have multi hardrive's d,e,f
it has to be there
it is that simple
delete that file
it's a period
that is a exe file >.exe<
your dongle call will no longer be there
hercules will bypass it totaly
now load this to a vrigin drive
NOT over top of the current drive
because u have invoked the window's hkey's already
and there .dll's/.ocx's
ie system32/system
once u have done this
save it
ie
hercules
this is now your new rescue disk
u no longer need the dongle

but THIS DOSE NOT APPLY TO A RUNNING GAME..for the simple reason
as u have pointed out......>running game<
hercule's found it in the WINDOW'S SYSTEM/SYSTEM32 FILE'S
U MUST KILL THE CALL CMD
let me see what i can do on my turny box

if u had edited hercule's from the start and re-saved it as hercule's and re-built your rescue disk u would not have these problem's

Hey thanks Ed but I seem to have a VERY different software layout than what your seeing.

I don't have a PGA directory on my drive.  And there is nothing Her* on the entire system. (Also no GVRDongle.*)

There is a PGA_TOUR_GOLF directory.

hi

DavidShoemaker

u are reading the harddrive
what u need to do is follow my readme
it explains how to find hercule's
which is a .bat/.exe file
it is in cmd32.exe
u  MUST FIND IT
it is there
unless u know how to break window's down? u will not find it
to search for it live remove my hifen >'<
go to search
find hercules
open in notepad/wordpad/and or any other txt editor
u can then edit
but as i said U CANNOT DO IT TO A LIVE HARDDRIVE
U MUST FOLLOW THE STEP'S I LAID OUT

I removed the drive from the machine, installed it into an external IDE -> USB enclosure.
Connected it to my PC (Win 8) drive shows up as an external disk G:
To be safe I copied the entire contents to a backup folder on another drive.
I have view hidden files turned on, I did a search for her*.* on the drive.  No results found.

I am seeing else where talk about a rescue disk?  I have an emergency recovery disk (050-0024-01 Rev B) and two software disks Version 2.2.0.0.  I don't have a rescue disk.

It's obvious I am missing something here.

Well I was able to get the game up for posterity here is what I did:
Using the (2.2.0.0 emergency recovery disk 050-0025-01 Rev B) with the original video card I started the install.
Then I used the 2.2.2.0 disks to install the game
After the game was up I shut down and swapped video cards.  The new card was a FX5200 which the drivers installed by 2.2.2.0 worked with.
I had to reboot twice to get things to configure correctly.
I also had to jump into the start menu in that quick second it is up because the video was defaulting to 640x480 and I had to change it to 800x600.

Now if I could just figure out how to get it to be a bit more $ friendly (this is going into a budget location).  I would REALLY like to be able to configure it for 1$ for 18 holes.

Thanks.

I must be doing something wrong because I cannot find Hercules ANYWHERE on my rescue disk for Team Challenge. Has anyone else been able to find it on the Rescue? I can only find it on the install CDs. I copied the Rescue to my home computer and when I explore each folder I don't see Hercules listed anywhere nor do I see any reference to the dongle call. I only see the GVRdongle.exe on the three installs. If someone has a few minutes to check their Rescue I would appreciate it. Ed, is it possible that my rescue is different for some reason?

Ed, would you consider posting your complete Rescue CD that has the edit completed prior to waiting for the online server to officially launch? It seems that it would help many here to play their PGAs again. I've personally fallen on my face trying to get anywhere with my Rescue CD for weeks. I've asked for some help from a few other friends and they were not able to do this either.

Im ready to throw in the towel and humbly ask for an upload of your edited CD. If you say Hercules is there then I believe it. For some reason I just cannot find it. You would be putting an end to months of frustration by uploading a complete edited Rescue. It will certainly fit in Dropbox! What do you say, buddy?  :applaud:

When I copied the Rescue CD to my home computer and opened it up I don't see a file structure that looks anything like this.  Should I be doing an install of the Rescue on a separate hard drive and then edit from the installed software on the hard drive versus trying to edit the files prior to installation (if that makes sense)?

Hi Ed thx for the heads up. Just thought it might be a good addition as my cousins machine has it displaying player stats throughout the game which I thought was a nice touch. However my other mates machine only has it advertising ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- which I don't like to much. Not sure how u change it to display stats or the stuff u want any help would be great. So I just thought I had the led topper lying around why not use it on my original machine. In future build would be great to do as suggested and had another display and do this type of stuff. Just started my holidays so have time now to get my machines up and running as they should and it comes at a good time as my PGA machine just made a pop the other day on boot up and died urgghhh yet to diagnose problem to see what actually went wrong will keep ya posted.
Thx heaps,
Spitfire

hi

do u see the pq ?
that is parition magic
i went trough this 15 post's ago
it put's a layer on top of the hard-drive >it not olny chk's it,but layer's it<
the pic's i up-loaded are right out of the server box
GOBAL-VR-PGA-GOLF u can clearly see it in the back-ground,even with my lame arse pic taker :):)
i did biatch about it,then i broke the code down, posted what was nessary to fix it
NOW if u cannot get your's running without dongle ?,just hold tight
i will post the how to

ed

Are you editing within those folder by slaving your PGA drive versus popping in the Rescue and copy and pasting it's contents over to another computer's C Drive and then exploring the contents?  When I copy and paste the Rescue to my home computer's desktop and open it up I have the file structure as displayed in my last post.  I do not see any of the folders you are snapping pics of.  The only thing I can think of is that you might be looking at a HD that has the Rescue installed already or it's because Windows 7 is displaying the contents of the Rescue differently then XP?  I'm not using any special program to look into Rescue either am I?  Just Windows?

Has anyone else been able to do this dongle bypass from the Rescue?  Can anyone give this a try and see if it's just me being an idiot about this?

hi
no stpcore
this box run's window's-xp-sp3
as a rule i use a advanced file viewer
>freefileviewer<
or i use wordpad or notepad
unless window's want's me to run a different type :like: on .cmd line file's
or when i am inside of the pga >there is a boat load of file's written just for them<
all the normal gui's are written just for them,so that take's a special ediitor
because when u want to add a player,u cannot upload it to the program as a mpeg2/3,must be uploaded to the program as a mepg1 and named as such
i do believe i changed that so it will take mpeg2/3 and more .wav file's
but then as i pointed out a few post's ago i have taken to run these unit's up to sp3
which mean's i am running larger then 10meg drive's

also stpcore i truly hope u caught that set of code i realsed today
which is window's regeristy stuff
for pga
i am going to edit it live tonight
and see if my thinking is right where it say's > then the cmd< i am going to remove the >no<...just to see what it will do for me
hey no pain no gain right
if i am right a patch for the dead dongle call is as easy as 2 line's of code
maybe then u can get moving again
bare with me

Now it looks like u r wanted us to edit on a live machine??? I will sit tight mate as we all are doing and hopefully all will be revealed. Ha ha ha
Thx Joe

okay, there seems to be some confusion regarding this, let me elaborate.

The PGA as it comes from the factory, runs on "Windows XP for Embedded Systems" or "XPE".

Windows XPE is an edition of Windows XP Pro that contains the full feature set of Windows XP Pro, but has restrictions on licensing that require the resulting device to boot directly into the original equipment manufacturer's application. (no software, no desktop. nothing.) The original equipment manufacturer is free to choose only the components needed thereby reducing operating system footprint and also reducing attack area as compared with XP Pro.

in a nutshell, you can completely replace the stripped down XPE (that will only work with the boardset that comes from the factory because that's all they designed it for) with Windows XP Pro, and gain the ability to port the game over to the new hardware.

unfortunately parts of the game are written specifically for the hardware (IE the video card the internet modem etc.). in order for the game to properly access the new hardware, the game needs to be changed. This (in conjunction with other things) is what Ed's trying to do right now.

alright, now that's out of the way,

he's doing it live on his machine in the photo above because it already has been modded with the changes including XP Pro. on the XPE install that comes with the PGA, because there is barely an operating system in there to begin with,  so you must load the disk into another computer and make the changes (new videocard or the net play connectivity he's working on) if you wish to keep the XPE setup.
