plumbing question

Hi Guys:

I have a question about plumbing.

You know, when your house's main rain drain gets clogged, you use that roto rooter thing and put that snake into the drain to unclog it...

I recently see a bigger version of that...

the "normal" ones are the red ones you see in home depot, it has the drum thingy that holds the cable (snake)...

this bigger one that I see... the snake is much bigger... so there's no drum thingy...

it comes in like about 10 ft extensions... and then you attach a really big (I think almost 4 in) spiral head with saw teeth on it...

and you use like a real big drill to rotate it in and out of the sewer pipe...

when the 10 ft snake is in the pipe, then you add another 10 ft extension... and so on...

My question is...
I've been trying to find a picture or info of that on the web...
but other than roto rooter - which is more like a brand....
or the home style small versions... I don't see any bigger ones..
I don't think that big one is from roto rooter....

anyone knows where I can find info about that ?
names ?? pics ?? parts info ?? etc ??

The small one is generally called a plumber's snake.  A larger one that most professionals use is often called a plumber's electric eel.  Google those terms for images to see if it's what you are looking for.

Do either of those answer your questions or are you looking at something else?

Yeah... I understand it sounded strange...
asking BYOAC guys about plumbing... using terms like snake and stuffs...

but I'm serious about the question, really want to know about this industrial strength thingy I saw....

if anyone can throw me some official terms / keywords to google, I would appreciate that also...

By "main rain drain", if you mean the roof gutter downspouts, I use a shop vac that has an exhaust port that you can attach the hose to. In other words, blow air up the spout. Works for me, and I dont have to climb a ladder and clean it out by hand. But if you are talking about sewer drains, then you need a snake.
